Below are mine:

Stephen Darby - captain of Liverpool under 21, played in CL played a game in the PL now he could of joined Championship & div 1 clubs but joined us and turned out to be one of the best RB's this club and I recalled him saying Parky phoned him to say he wants a team of leaders. Now what a leader and player he turned out to be for us.

Steven Gerrard - What a player! Carried poor Liverpool teams to win things. Captain of England. He could play RB, CB, DM, CM, AM,RM - doesn't matter he was world class. Always produced and one of the best players this country has produced

Dean Windsss - I fully believe when we sold him the second time round that just sent us down to div 2. Massive mistake. He was quality for us in my eyes. Worked so hard and gave us that bite.

Nahki Wells - hate the fact he joined Huddersfield after us but 42 goals in 91 games having just joined as a trial. One of the best finishers this club has seen and when he had a chance you just knew he was scoring.

Hard to see past one man, but

2 Trevor Brooking, one of our own. Started as a centre forward but developed into one of the finest creative midfielder, not blessed with pace, but fabulous technique and vision. Smart & elegant, seemed to glide rather than run hence his nickname Hadleigh - readers of a certain age will know the reference. Scored the winner in 1980 cup final (the last time the cup was won by a team outside the top tier).

3 Billy Bonds, signed from Charlton as a full back, ended up playing in midfield, hard as nails but with a bit of skill, travesty he never got an England cap.

4. Clyde Best - The Beast from Bermuda, one of the first black players playing in the top flight. Did a lot to help overturn the East End prejudice (not that it doesn't still exist). As well as Best we had the Charles brothers and Ade Coker playing in the team several seasons before the WBA "Three Degrees"

Could have picked PdC, Tevez, Alvin Martin, Tony Cottee etc. Husrt & Peters, but there is only one Number I

Bruce Bannister - my first footballing hero as a young lad. With his pop star looks and haircut he looked different to the other players, and there was a certain flair about his play that appealed.

Ces Podd - i was amazed how he managed to rise above the racism directed against him by opposition fans when there were so few black players playing then. He was also a very good full back and should have played at a higher level in my opinion. He was also a very nice, modest man too

Stuart McCall - Along with many others, cannot praise him high enough for his contribution in his different spells with us. So much passion and determination
with every second he played for us. A true legend

Sir Bobby Campbell - his goalscoring record aside, he would have literally run through a brick wall for us, and he also looked after his team mates, another true legend

 

Stuart McCall - nuff said.
Chris Waddle - Wasn’t here long, but I was 16/17 at the time, City were a massive part of my life and he was the first real sprinkling of stardust i can remember us having. He genuinely got me on the edge of my seat.
Gazza - as a player only. The summers of 1990 and the 96 will live long in the memory.
Paul Scholes - the most talented footballer i’ve ever seen in the flesh, and I had the pleasure a number of times. A genius, I could watch him all day long.

Number one has to be Stuart McCall the above posts tell it all, Just a side story, many years ago when Stuart was an apprentice he was interviewed on Pennine Radio ?, and was asked about his daily routine as an apprentice and he quoted sweeping the stands and cleaning the first teams boots, at the time I though you poor soul most would give our right arm to be blessed with the chance of playing for Bradford City, boy how he turn out not just the best ambassador of our club but a fine human being.
Number two, fading memories but the first all round striker I ever saw Mr David (Bronco) Layne anyone who saw him for the short time he was at Bradford City knew he was destined for better things, unfortunately a sad ending as he would have gone on to play for England without doubt, what a scoring ratio.

Number three, Has to be the late great Bobby Campbell if you wanted a player who'd run through a brick wall for the cause it was Big Bobby, his reputation went before him those who played along side him had nothing but good memories of the man, and those that played against him at his game were unwise.
Number four Without doubt Peter Downsborough was the best goal keeper I have seen in Bradford City's colour's and this was after two very successful stints one at his home club Halifax Town and the other at Swindon, but he served Bradford City from 1974 to 1978 featuring over 200+ times between the sticks.

Carbone gave up £3.2m that Bradford City owed him.

I wasn't a massive fan, and he was an appalling signing on so many levels, but his contribution to the continued existence of our club should never be forgotten or shunned. He never shirked his duties, always worked hard, was as far from a clinical goalscorer as you could possibly get, though, and suited Bradford City as much as Steve Evans' waistline suits Abercrombie & Fitch clothing, but it is what it is.

 

Nigel Pepper - so influential during his purple patch.

Stuart McCall - Everything.

Gary Jones - The catalyst for our mini recovery.

Robbie Blake - my ideal footballer. His career highlight reel is indicative of a player who could have been a player at the highest level. From age 15 - 18 I wanted to be him. I spent hours trying to run like him, strike the ball like him. I studied him!

 

Bobby Campbell great player and great character.

Stuart McCall What can I say a true legend city through and through.

Peter Beagrie Joy to watch hell of a goal celebration.

Gary Jones Solid 100% player great Captain

 

I'm going to try and name 4 who haven't been already mentioned.

1. Karl Goddard

He would have been on my list anyway. He was my first 'favourite' player as a kid. I used to like getting im early and watching him do the kickups and tricks in the warm up.

2. Edinho.

Loved his attitude to the game and his goals played a big part in us scraping survival in our first season back at that level.

3. Lee Mills.

For that one season he was the best 'big forrad' I've ever seen at City. He did absolutely everything you could ask from a frontman and was lethal in front of goal with it. His partnership with Blake was a joy to watch but Mills shaded it imo for his all round consistent contribution.

4. Paul Tomlinson

I was only youngish but he seemed almost impossible to get past in that nearly season. Once he left I never really felt as confident in our keepers until Gavin Ward and then the run of Schwarzer, Walsh and Clarke

5. Jermaine Johnson

A rare bright spot in some difficult and trying times on the pitch for the club. Unfortunately he predictably moved on far too quick but with him in the side we at least had a few edge of the seat moments most weeks.

Omar Daley... For comedic value only.. And the odd wonder goal.

Peter thorne... Knew where the onion bag was.

 

The longer you've supported City,the harder it is
to pick just 4 players but.......mine would be :-

1 Stuart McCall for his contributions as player
and loyalty to the club.
2 John Hendrie for his skill and exciting play.
3 Bobby Campbell his goals and character
made him a stand out player for us.
4 Benito Carbone.The most technically gifted
player ever to don a City shirt.Some may say
he was a mercenary but he let us off the wages
we owed him when we went into administration.

 

True. But, unlike Benny, he was bloody awful to watch.

 

Johnny McCole, John Reid, Bobby Webb, Johnny Simm (plus lots more!)

Andy O'Brien - remember this kid emerging and marking great players out the game, including in one game Alan Shearer. Extremely influential in our most successful years, become my favourite player, and was gutted when he was sold
Stuart McCall - I did not witness his first tenure at the club, so this is based entirely on his second tenure as a player, as well as his immense efforts as manager. Stuart IS Bradford City, there is no greater talisman, and I am hoping there is one day a statue of Stuart outside VP. He led us to the Premier League, and helped keep us there.
Peter Beagrie - The most exciting Bradford City player I have ever seen, bar none, Beagrie was absolute quality.
Chris Waddle - Waddle preceded many of our Premier League greats, and showed us what elite footballers were all about. Even approaching retirement, he was a phenomenal player and I was there at Goodison.
