2024 Released Players & City transfer rumours

I don't think you can buy proven strikers at league two level. There's a reason they play in league two. Looking at other teams, who would you regard as a proven goal scorer?

 

Hopefully when all our better players play in the same side rather than the mix and match we’re using at the moment we’ll get back to the sort of form that ended last season with 6 wins out of 7 and 15 goals scored. It included 3 good away wins against teams with something to play for, though admittedly the 3 home wins were against teams with nothing left to play for, however we got the job done.

 

The Jury was never out on Langstaff he has scored reliably at each level he played at. I had no doubt he would do the same at league two. Orsi fair enough.

 

Just off the top of my head - and yes some will disagree!
Callum Hendry, Tom Eaves, Joe Pigott, Smith rumoured from Sutton, to name but four.
Some may come off, some not but they've all scored goals at our level.
We get Nevers, Costelloe, the lads from Villa and WBA etc.

 

Ok, not bad, still, four (five including Cook) out of 24 teams says it isn't easy to find them.

 

I did say "off the top of my head" though mate!!!

 

They're all 10 a season men. I don't think I'd class any of them as reliable scorers, more a mix of workhorses and target men.

 

Fair comment NM, however I give you Kavanagh 5 from 16, Smith 12 from 47 (7 scored in cups) last season (Cook 19 from 38)
Season 22/23 not one player got anywhere near 10 except Andy Cook (31 from 52 in all comps)
That says to me that we are desperately in need of another striker - Jamie Walker is the only other player to get 10 (from 36) last season.
Will Young step up to the plate this coming season? Who knows but I hope so to lend Cook a hand!

 

I see Pattison played deeper in the six role yesterday. I wonder if that’s where he is going to fit in this year

 

Six role ? As in left sided centre half ? Impressive for a short guy, and very deep.

I do agree with the point you made BiG, it would be nice to bring one in but I also agree with @Botswana Bantam in that their saviour as rare as hens teeth and a lot of the time you just need to drop lucky.

 

Hopefully this loan player is a decent centre half.
If this kid leaves Wolves for Liverpool, could be another £200,000 in the pot, which could come in handy.

 

Very worrying if he thinks number 6 is a midfield role.

Hopefully the loan players are ones that are nearing the end of their contract we could potentially sign should be luckily enough to get promoted or a youngster with the potential of Pickford with a bright future. We do not appear to be future proofing given the signings so far as regards progression of City up the league pyramid.
