I'm slightly worried about the quality of trialists playing for us. The transfer window started well with Sarcevic and Johnson but the rest are slightly underwhelming. We also still have Oliver and McDonald in the books who are not going to play much and will be on high wages.

I'm worried that we've already gone off track from what was promised only weeks ago at the fan's forum. If we have one of the biggest budgets and are moving away from being only ‘sustainable’ then why does it look like we've gone even cheaper with recruitment.

Ok, they need real game time in the league but are Byrne and Baldwin better than Tomkinson and Platt? Not convinced we've upgraded at all but time will tell

 

Concerns shared by a few, but ignored by many. Our business looks very average on paper and losing too 6th and 7th tier sides is worrying, whether it is fitness or not. Same for them too!!!

GA is rightly fuming. Hopefully a wake up call. 2/3 more needed amd im talking quality.

 

Alexander should be worried because he's going to be the scapegoat if we start the season poorly. Sharpe is Sparks’ mate so he won't face any questions

For me "investment in the squad" can come in different forms to show that an owner is backing the manager.

One way that could be done is through paying up contracts and releasing players. It's harsh (and expensive) but GA has at least three players in the squad that he doesn't fancy - Oliver, Wilson and McDonald. He's also shown that he's not keen on giving 2nd or 3rd chances.

So, when it comes to "investment", I'd be happy to see Rupp putting his hand in his pocket and paying off the contracts above, maybe others, as harsh as it is on the players, and before even putting more money in the kitty, using the wages to get a good 2nd keeper and a strong central defender in and then see where we are.

 

He'll fit right into that back line then.

 

I still can't get my head around the fact we have a transfer committee and outwardly at least there doesn't appear to be any worries about the state of the squad.

I mean we haven't solved our over reliance on Andy Cook for goals we haven't solved our problem area of Lb/lwb. We have weakened the central areas of defence massively.

We also don't appear to realise sill that signing players with recent poor injury record tends to result in injuries to said player.

I think we saw from that fans forum that they all basically sang each other praises,I think what's needed is an opposing opinion on that team to point out the glaring issues.

Lots of work to do, and time is running out.

 

I do feel that if GA can't get enough goals out of Cook, Oliver, Young, Kavanagh and others like Walker, Pointon, Pattison then he needs to retire. A decent coach should be able to have 2 or 3 set ups and tactics to get enough goals out of the forward people we have. My worry is keeping the ball out of our own net.

 

The jury is still out on if Young will ever be able to do it for us, I hope he does because I really like him. Kavanagh is a prospect of that there is no question but he's still raw so will need patience. Oliver? No chance we need rid of him ASAP and a solid replacement with a proven recent record signed.

If Kavanagh bags 15-20 goals this season and we don't go up then he'll be sold like Langstaff was.

Cook is rare in league two - a dependable goal scorer. There aren't many others. They tend to come from nowhere and move on quickly.

 

I still don't have faith in our strikers to score the goals required to get us out of this godforsaken League, Bots.
And before I get slaughtered with the Andy Cook comebacks, yes the lad has done well in past seasons for us but he's now what - 34?
Need another proven striker in the building asap for me.
