If we make top 6 but fail to go up, I hope we don't become this seasons Wycombe. As for today, we create good chances but need to take them early. The defence at some point has to start keeping clean sheets. A draw won't be a bad result, but no win in 3 slows momentum.

 

The money this season isnt even that impressive though! Town spent a wad on May and invested in salaries for a a small crop of players but they lost 2-3 assets too. Luton only spent money that had come in for departing players (which heavily outweighs) then wages on Wells and Saville. Ditto Plymouth tbh. They may well spend anither chunk in January but it certainly hasnt guaranteed anything last summer!!

Grant and Wilshere aint taking either up IMO. A different manager might.

Birmingham and Wrexhams spends were different gravy.

 

Yeah different level this season. That's what makes me think the teams who are 6th to maybe 10th/11th if they have the funds will blow it in Jan as the CH teams coming down look like they should be stronger than the ones that come down and whether we like it or not, the rest of the league will have the "can they keep it up" questions over us, Stevenage and Wimbledon probably until the end of the winter.

I don't think Grant is still there in a months time but I think they'll eventually come good when they get someone in who knows what they are doing.

 

Does anyone have pub recommendations in Stevenage? Would somewhere that does half decent food be asking too much?

 

@Jonathan Swift Alexander wont be leaving us anytime soon. Dont see Championship teams interested given he has no experience there and a move to another L1 club is a side step currently. If a big club comes down (Blackburn, Norwich even Wednesday if they sort themselves out) and we are still L1 then thats where it may become tricky - especially if we have remained promotion contenders.

 

Ideally Town pick up pts here and there so he remains. Just enough to keep them at bay!

Normally in the club at the ground…never had a problem getting in.

No Sarc, Humphrys, Pennington or Pointon

 

Alexander has earned our trust, but that side looks a car crash. It's a League 2 side.

 

That DOES look like a weakened team. Lots of injuries at same time again.

 

Presumably most if not all of our big players missing is due to illness or injury.

 

They are heading defenders only and slow on the deck so you play men with pace up top then bring Cooki on for the last 25 or so. I forecast this maybe our starting up top in a PM yesterday. Kelly is my concern. But they play with a big man up top . Clearly our injuries are not as far forward as we think?

 

Huge lack of creativity in that team today. Slightly less confident now

 

But even with the injuries, I'd have Mcintyre and Richards in over Kelly and Byrne.

Byrne AND Kelly in the back three with Wright who has not been at his best recently

 

Back to normal wing backs and Wright taking Bobby spot . Defensively they play like Rotherham , hence Swan and Kav up top ? Metcalf playing , I’m happy , bar Kelly ?

 

Assume Sarcevic and Humphrys have some kind of injury/illness as I would expect at least Sarcevic to be on the bench even if he was being rested. I'm not surprised Kelly has come in for McIntyre to give the side extra height which we are massively lacking and we'll need it with their crosses and long throws into the box.

A big game for Metcalfe where he'll probably get more time on the ball as I'm expecting Stevenage to sit off and allow us to have the ball.
