For entertainment, but not actual success, add Terry Dolan. For producing a team from the depths of dispair and getting promotion in year one whilst staring down the face of insolvency, (and starting the whole damn Bantam Progressivism thing off that ended in the PL) add Roy McFarland.

Just watched episode 1 of Welcome to Wrexham 3 where it ends with GA shaking Parkies hand after whooping 'em 5-3 at first home match last season ...

Only once he retires. Would be a joke to have a suite or bar named after an opposition manager who probably views us as just a former employer, nothing like Stuart McCalls situation.

So many on here focus on the period say 1960-2024.

Arguably City were in their pomp before World War 1.
    • Without any doubt, Peter O’Rourke is the greatest manager the club has ever had.
    • Over two periods he was the manager for 18 seasons, the longest stint anyone has managed the club (1905-1921 & 1928-1930).
    • Prior to that he played for the club 1903-1905 and captained the team.
    • In 1908, City were promoted as Champions to the top tier.
    • In 1911 City won the FA cup.
    • Also that season City finished in its highest ever position on the Football ladder.
    • City were promoted from Division Three in 1929 as Champions. They scored 128 goals in the season. At that time they gained 63 points in a 42 match season. If you put the same points /goals to the current 46 matches (it was 2 points for a win at that time), then City could have got 97 points and scored 140 goals (or thereabouts)
    • After he retired, O’Rourke lived in Burlington Terrace until he died.
If anyone should be viewed as City’s greatest ever manager it is Peter O’Rourke.

If they want to build a memorial/name something in the stadium, then he should be top of the list of candidates.

That’s a very , very good shout Rod. You are right , we all focus on our own memories, some older, some younger. I don’t think any of us can remotely re-live that era , only from books as you markedly point out really well. No question , it’s an” age” thing .

Sorry mate I'll have to disagree, when Parky took over his one and only task was to keep us in the EFL, when Jewell took over from Kammy who had brought the likes of Darren Moore, Robbie Blake, Peter Breagrie, Jammie Lawrence, Gary Walsh, there was little pressure on him because no one believed we could challenge for a promotion place, the money the Rhodes family pumped into the player budget that season was a massive help, all about opinions ;)

Why do we have a suite named after john Hendrie ? Great player for us, but didn't really achieve anything did he ? Maybe one Division 3 champions medal. Also don't forget he joined L$$ds in 89, during the period where the scum would mock the fire disaster every time we played them.

As for the McCall suite totally get it, club legend, kept his promise to us that he would return after leaving us for Everton in 88 (after just missing out on promotion in the "nearly season"), captained us to the premier league and captained our survival, He also had plenty of opportunities in the late 80's and early 90s to join the scum, especially as they were boyhood team and his father had played for them but refused each time out of loyalty to City fans.. something Hendrie forgot.

Maybe rename Hendrie suite to Parkinson Suite, The manager who took us to the cusp of The Championship, and along the way Playoff winners, League Cup finalist, FA Cup quarter finalist. Or The Peter O'Rouke Suite, probably our greatest manager of all time, or the James Hanson suite who also achieved more than Hendrie whilst at City, Promotion to league 1 and EFL League Cup runners up medal, maybe the Hanson suite :) Either way time to ditch the Hendrie suite.

I'd be happy with the Phil Parkinson Suite, I can't pass comment on Peter O'Rourke's time (even before my day) at the club successful but different times to the modern game, although I don't necessarily agree with your comments with regards Hendrie, as we keep hearing its a short career so make the best of it whilst you can.

I think the thing is that history has to be viewed over the totality of the clubs existence .

John Hendrie was a great player for City, but it has to be put into context and what he achieved compared to other people.

If you are under 40, then it is likely that you have no recollection of Hendrie actually playing for City. My kids both recall Robbie Blake with great fondness (a comparable player to Hendrie), but have no actual memory of John Hendrie, the youngest wasn’t even born when he played for the Club.

If you want to go back to history and longevity, then Cec Podd, surely is the winner.

If you look at Goal scorers then Bobby Campbell over the long haul or your name sake for goals in one season.

Phil Parkinson arguably achieved more than Hendrie, and was at the club for a longer period. Nothing against John Hendrie, l just feel that the choice is somewhat dated, and compared to other people Hendrie is not ‘the standout’ candidate.

I am fairly certain that there is no Bradford City supporter, who can recall Frank O’Rourkes time at City, but that does not diminish his outstanding achievements and commitment to the club. Perhaps it should be remembered?

I can definitely live with the idea of Ces being worthy of some kind of honour. What him and Joe had to endure was pretty horrific, more so compared to the fairly sparse nature of today (talking about during the games, from spectators in attendance). But Ces takes it for his longevity with the club. Certainly up there with Stuart and Bobby.

All about opinions Rod, I wouldn't disagree with Ces or Bobby Campbell, still not sure about O'Rourkes era.
