Bantam Talk Prediction League

Welcome to the rules thread for the Bantam Talk Prediction League. A fun and free competition for Forum Members.

Every league match we will ask for your score predictions and you will be awarded points for your accuracy. These scores will accumulate and whoever has the most points after the final game of the league season will be crowned champion. There will even be some prizes on offer.

How To Play

A couple of days before every league match a prediction thread will be posted. This thread will be stickied to the top of the forum to help you find it. On this thread, you just need to post your match prediction on the following format

Point System

Points are awarded as follows

• Correct Result – 2 Points
• Correct Score - 3 Points
• Correct Scorer – 1 Point

Bonus Points. The best prediction will get 5 bonus points. If multiple people predicted the same score and scorers then the minute of the first goal (or yellow in a scoreless draw) will be used as a tiebreak. Anyone who losses on this tiebreak will get 3 bonus points.

If even with the tiebreak entries are still identical the first person to post will get the full bonus points

Penalty Points. If you predict Bradford scoring more than 5 or more goals you will get a penalty of -1 for each incorrect scorer. This is to prevent abuse by naming all 11 starters as scorers for guaranteed points.

Rules

• Entering via multiple accounts is forbidden. If we catch you using multiple accounts they will all be disqualified
• Only entries made before kick off will be accepted
• Only your first entry in each game will be accepted. If you wish to change delete your initial entry and resubmit
• Don’t use players nicknames, only their surnames (If there are multiple players with the same surname then enter in the format of FirstName.Surname)

*I’m obviously not going to send you a sausage roll. You will get 90p sent via Paypal so you can go buy your own.

This is a system that’s been in place for multiple seasons elsewhere on the internet and the deciding factor is almost always the scorer predictions and the bonus points. It also doesn’t make it that much easier to submit entries, it makes it a bit easier for me to score it but as most of that’s automated with a script that’s not a major issue

 

Yep. As long as your post shows a timestamp before 3PM (or whatever the kick off time is) it will be accepted

 

Even if unrestricted edits were on the whole forum it would be blocked in this forum as I've intentionally set it up that way so people can’t make edits after the match starts. You do have the ability to delete though and repost

 

Was expecting some issues with it on the first one anyway as these kinds of things always need tweaking so it can recognise some minor differences. Some of them are so off it’s almost like they are doing it on purpose lol.

There’s a template in the first post they could have just copy and pasted then edited to fit their predictions after all.

For this game I may just manually add some of those that my script totally ignores but will get stricter for later ones

 

For the tiebreak its the minute of the first goal of the game by either side. For goalscorers names then its only the city ones

 

Seems all they needed was about 5 different templates to copy and paste depending on their prediction as the only incorrect entry this match so far just missed out the blank lines and tbh I can get the script to handle that, the blank lines just make it let likely for the script to make an error

 

It gets way too confusing if you start throwing opponents scorers into the mix.

And it works both ways. If city don't score and you predict that you stand a much greater chance of getting the best prediction bonus points. When there is a city goal scorer there are more factors that come into play making getting the bonus points harder to get
