IMO as a manager he should be in the dug out barking orders not texting them!

    That's
That's probably where it all fell apart. If he's on O2 the coverage is sh#te in the main stand. The orders won't have sent til he left the ground.

Smallwood pretty much said this in his post match, without saying it directly.

GA has been in stands for several weeks now. He has various technology options and for me it’s only an alternative vantage point that he believes aid him.

The problem is the players IMO. When Ridealgh cannot complete a simple pass from the back, how does been on the sideline change this?
When Kelly receives the ball at feet and makes his first action to launch it up in the air down the throat of their CB, how does been on the sideline change this?
When we get into the final third and then poor quality or decision making breaks the attack down (per last night), why does been on the sideline change this?

At some stage players have to take responsibility. For me, this is where we need to address for next season.

They do. But that's not the point.

This higher vantage point is something I picked up on many years ago from Aussie Rules; I have often wondered why it's rarely done in football.

It provides a completely different perspective on the way the team is set up / performing and, in my opinion, it's something either the manager or a senior member of the management/coaching team should be doing every match (with live communications between them and the dugout).

I think GA needs to come up with a way getting someone up alongside Cook as a proper partner as oppose to wide players either side of him that seem too far away from him to link up properly, even more so with us now nothing to lose scenario we're in.

That's how it's being managed in the Six Nations as well. Borthwick sits with a couple of coaches and his analysts quite high up and feeds his instructions down to pitchside on his phone. The oppo manager does exactly yhe same. It makes perfect sense to me.

Off topic I know...but what a win for England last Saturday. First time in ages I've been out of my seat watching England rugby. And to think I missed the first try waiting for the Accrington match to finish

It certainly does make perfect sense because they can watch live replays and analyse the match properly

I agree. The view from up there is second to none. He will see everything from that position.

They are in contact with Lucketti and Trueman through out the game we've come on since writing notes on a piece of paper and attaching it to a pidgeon, they are miked up with ear pieces like the match officials. as @bantam316@bantam316 said we should have been either changing the system or personel before half time.

I was surprised he didn't bring McDonald on at half time when he put Walker on, saying at the time being a goal down we had nothing to lose, we did play better second half but once again we couldn't finish.

It certainly looked that way but I'll not criticize a manager for going for it when 1 - 0 down especially at home.

    Thank you for mansplaining.

But he's the manager... The one being bad cop when needed.. the one the players realise the manager is going pissed. Can't do that up in the gods.

You're more than welcome, I'm always happy to explain the situation, it makes no difference if he's in the dug out or sat near the press box for a better view of the whole pitch and how the players are performing within their areas, I would think if the message wasn't getting communicated to the player he would come down and stand on the side lines, as he did in second half of the game.
Not sure what your highlighted means.

It was his (GA) only error for me last night. The pitch was hindrance, not an excuse, but the only player I would have bet have the quality we needed to make something happen in the final third, it was Macdonald.

Same in Union. The worst view in the ground is sat in the dug out.

Yes I believe it was to change formation as Walker was driving through them in the first 10 mins after he came on.
