Cumbrian Police issue warning

    Barrow fans are urged to behave responsibly at this weekend’s match with Bradford City.

    Police have teamed up with Barrow bosses as a bumper crowd is expected to attend Saturday’s League Two clash at the SO Legal Stadium.


    Officers are appealing for fans to not let emotions spill into criminal activity.

    Superintendent Sarah Jones said: “We are all looking forward to what will hopefully be a great event for both sets of supporters.

    “We are expecting a large crowd, therefore there will be a significant policing presence in and around the stadium and town centre on Saturday.

    “As with any high-profile event we will be on hand to ensure the safety of everyone.

    “Whilst we appreciate the passion people have for their football team we are asking fans to remain respectful, responsible and mindful of others to ensure everyone can enjoy the match.

    “Where an individual engages in unlawful behaviour, the police will step in and take action.”

    A spokesman for Barrow AFC said: “We look forward to welcoming Bradford on Saturday at the SO Legal Stadium.

    “We understand the passions of both supporters when it comes to football. However, we do ask that both sets of supporters respect players, staff, and fans at all times.

    “Your support this season has been brilliant, and we can’t wait to welcome you back through the turnstiles on Saturday in what should be a fantastic afternoon of football.

    Are they expecting trouble,flare chuckers you have been warned.

    No flares. No singing. No swearing. No drinking alcohol. No taking pictures outside the stadium. Have a cracking Saturday city fans. Up the poultry.

    Can you point out where it says anything in the article, to the ‘No’ everything you have posted?

    Apart from flares, can you provide a link to legislation which makes it an offence for, ‘singing, swearing, drinking alcohol, taking photos’?

    Hysterical unfounded, scaremongering.

    Doesn’t suprise me at all that flares are still popular in Barrow. Imagine if they had the internet up there, it’d blow their minds.

    Well, there were a thousand City fans, many of them having to stop due to trains.
    A lot of Barrow fans about, and busy pubs. Not sure what the police were expecting but can’t say enough about the club or the Barrow fans - really friendly and welcoming.
    Lesson learned about booking specific trains though!

    I was fortunate in that, more often than not, I find split ticketing cheaper than advanced tickets on the trains, so I was able to just return home earlier than originally planned.

    And, yes, the Barrow fans, I met, all seemed friendly enough and seemed just as bemused as we were by the Police warnings.

    Even with our annoying ‘youth’ element, 99% of fans behave impeccably. Not sure it makes people think, I’d best behave today.
    The ones who don’t behave aren’t going to listen anyway
