I agree. If a team is in a precarious position re relegation or need every point for promotion they may be influenced to say the match should go ahead when it shouldn't. It needs an independent decision.

 

Or conversely argue it should be postponed when they have suspensions or injuries they could do without.

 

That's the danger with consulting managers ....

Yes, shockingly written rule. One sentence is enough. “The referee shall/ shall not deem the pitch playable”

However there is another problem and that is of ground access, etc . There used to be , and I think there still is (?) , that if the terracing and surrounding streets are unsafe, eg snow/ ice, even if the pitch is playable then the game can also be postponed.

Minefield that has always worked well, until someone decided to rewrite the rules by giving the managers a “say” is pretty irrelevant as yesterday shows.

 

Do they still exist

 

The ball not bouncing is pretty fundamental. We have one of the worst pitch he's in the efl and I can't remember any match where the ball literally hasn't bounced in some parts of the pitch. If the ball isn't carrying in and around the 6 yard area and / or the channels then it's unplayable. It'd become a farce. Imagine a cross into the box landing and just sticking like a golf ball in the bunker. It might've happened in the 80s but the game doesn't go ahead in these circumstances.

 

I'll leave this convo with you, with all due respect we're just going round in circles. Respect your opinion though.

If there was part of the pitch considered dangerous to play on then GA was correct not to play.the game. We have enough injuries to senior players without risking more which with our sods law luck may have happened,

 

These sort of social media posts just emphasise how little thought is given to fans by some people at football clubs.
All about getting a like or follow on X.
You and many others spent a lot of money on getting to a football game that was (probably) incorrectly postponed at the last minute.
They are almost laughing at the fact the game got called off.
