    He was one of the best for Chester after he left us but along with Colin Hall who was signed at the same time to improve our goal output, Im afraid he was a bit of a flop for us. Stafford sold the ground to Bradford council to raise cash and fund the two deals in 1970 and both players cost us about £10,000 each but after two seasons both were released on free transfers.

    Agree with the gist of this post but my recollection is the transfer fee came from the £20k we received from Bristol Rovers for Bruce Bannister.

    No the transfer of Bruce Bannister occurred in the Autumn of 1971 when he was sold to Bristol Rovers some 18 months after Hall and Owen were signed. Eventually we used the Bannister money to sign Gerry Ingram from Preston in February 1972.
