It's almost as if Hughes wanted to take a potshot at the Club before he was binned. All he had to do over the summer was one or two tweaks patching up the weak areas, including replacements for Banks and Critchlow. Instead he went awry by signing misfits or past-it "players" and chucking 3 year contracts around like confetti. Was it a last V sign to the Club as he thought he was likely to be binned or did he have some kind of breakdown? Only speculation but something just doesn't feel right about the affairs over the summer.

 

I don't think Hughes was involved in many signing to be honest. He saw enough of Taylor within 90 Mins to have sussed him out. . You can't tell me he was a Hughes signing. I honestly think Hughes was only involved in those that he knew IE Lewis, Derbyshire, Clayton etc

 

Yawn!

 

Taylor was okay today and has been since he came back into the side.

 

Will be off in Jan if he’s adamant on playing

 

The more I think about it, i think Hughes mentally checked out after Carlisle. After a shocking performance we were on our way to a smash and grab before THAT substitution and MH clearly resented the totally justified criticism that came his way.
The recruitment was lazy with no strategic plan, which by the end just appeared to be about getting as many bodies in the building as quickly as possible.
Looking back, I'm just not sure his heart was in it any more and whilst I didnt feel this at the time, with the benefit of hindsight it would have been best for all concerned if he'd gone after the Carlisle game.
Whilst we probably can muster a top half starting 11 when everyone is fit, he's left us with an inferior overall squad than the one he took over which is criminal.

 

Give it a few months and sadly this maybe a reality. That poor sod has somehow got to shift not one or two players out he has to at least 10 out but lets be realistic who in there right mind is gonna wanna take them?

 

12 months?

 

Can see the poor sod not seeing the season out he somehow has to get results from a squad that he simply does not want.

Thats the main reason why I was in the 'stick' camp re Hughes until his position became completely untenable. Once the window closed, the damage had already been done so for me it was down to MH to get us out of the mess he created. Unfortunately that mess is even worse than I thought and regardless of whether GA is the right man for us, he aint a miracle worker and it will take more than just the January window to sort this out.

Well he lost 2 games and there were a few folk on here saying that he should be binned and quick. By that logic Alexander has to win or draw the next game. Of course I don't remotely believe that should be the case but nor am I expecting any surge from our team. We are losing against decent (for this division) teams and losing against the very odd poor team. Mostly we will hold our own against lower/mid table sides with the odd glitch. In other words we will finish in the top half of the table but I'm not expecting the play offs. I think many of us gave up on the autos weeks ago. Player recruitment has been gash, woeful.

 

In all seriousness he has to be given this and at least another season to even start to turn it round
Unless our Proud Custodian shakes the money tree to pay off all the duds on 2/3 contracts we've signed
we are stuck with nearly a full team of last pay day/genuinely poor players (a leaner meaner squad) !!!!
The immediate future revolves round Rupp paying for the mistakes Sparks/Hughes/Bent have made allowing GA the January window to bring in players at least L2 standard
With the buzz word being sustainability I won't hold my breath
