When exactly was he last “a bit of an idiot”??? Has he actually done anything untoward during his managerial career??

One of the reasons we are where we are is because of the soft bellied self righteous fans like you. This club is a failure of the highest order when you look at our under achieving over the past 6 years. Stop making excuses for those in charge park, it is bloody nauseating

Does he have tattoos on his hands? If they are no tattoos he must be a car mechanic in his spare time.

 

I'd have Barton, recent success under his belt and you'd think he wouldn't have a problem setting the lads into line. I think looking at the names linked, he's certainly towards the top.

But as through his playing career, he is still his own worst enemy. There was the incident in 2021 with his wife when he allegedly beat her up at their home but his wife would never talk to the police and it was dropped due to that and the judge felt Barton wouldn't get a fair trial.

Also at Fleetwood he allegedly assaulted the Barnsley manager in the tunnel after a game and charged, but again, cleared in court a few years later.

There was also the time at Bristol when in the press after a game with Swindon, he asked Ben Garner for 15-20 minutes outside after for a discussion on the finer points. He also compared a loss at Bristol to the holocaust which obviously got him some rightful stick.

 

He has faced two court cases for assault. Not found guilty in either, one found not guilty and one case dismissed

 

Just a reminder, it’s not up to us fans who the next manager is. Best thing to do is keep an open mind and hope it’s a no no nonsense man who can rejuvenate our team. Also, don’t forget we are a league two club so don’t get your hopes up. Sparks has a difficult decision to make he’s made some fantastic appointments for this club, but sadly they have failed. Everyone did back flips over Adams and Hughes, but they didn’t succeed. We all got behind both of them at the beginning. We will do the same again and hope it works out.

 

There was a video online, not so long ago, of Barton having a punch up on a beach with members of the public. Not the best behaviour for a football manager. However, this is about getting City promoted to L1 - not an application for being a model citizen. I doubt the lynch mob will be as vocal if we went on a winning run under Barton.

 

yeah, I’d definitely take him. We need someone like Barton to stop the rot and kick the players arses firmly into touch.

 

Barton's an interesting guy who is clearly intelligent but seemingly has a bit of a violent and self destructive streak inside. He was a decent footballer, has had some success as a manager and I remember him being a thoughtful and articulate advocate in a documentary about homophobia in football a few years ago.

He wouldn't be an automatic "no" for me but he'd have to be astonishingly good in his interview because there's an obvious risk in hiring him which is not there for most other potential managers.

 

Some people just click in the right circumstances - for example, there's a reason Adams keeps ending up at Morecambe. Some people just find it hard everywhere and never really get success because of how they are made up.

We've had managers that were brilliant elsewhere and failed with us. We'll never know and can't judge until the person comes in and gives it their best shot. The main problem is that Ryan is yet to choose a successful manager. That's the real problem.

Let's hope for all our sakes that he pulls a rabbit out of the hat this time. Surely it's his last chance.

Anyone can say this, now it’s in the past. Who would you have brought in at the time, instead of Adam’s and Hughes?

 

I’ve realised tonight how old I am. Barton is a stretch too far for me. The thought of him being our manager fills me with dread. If he is our only route to promotion from the old 4th division to the 3rd division god help us all. There has to be a more normal human being. If he was one of our own fans, his behaviour would warrant that many of us would want him to be banned.

 

No honestly, even when I was a young man I couldn't do a back-flip... I once rolled out of bed pissed.

 

Yep, me too. I'd be handing in my season ticket. I could stomach anyone but not him. To me, supporting city is more than just about winning. I'd be staying away until he disappeared. Just a personal view. Not telling anyone else how to feel or how to behave.
