I just get the feeling that he’s the ideal candidate for us if it weren’t for his history with us. I remember both Parky and DMac saying how they thought he’d suit us too.

 

Have a few on here been putting their weekend beer money on Barton this afternoon. Odds now evens.

Prefer Artell myself.

 

Prefer Amstel myself … not that weird looking comedian, before all the ‘funny lads’ pile in!

 

I get the impression Artell would want a project to build a team over a longer time than our fanbase would give him

 

Accept your point. You could argue his record is better than Barton's.
Both got promotion and then mid-table in League 1, but Artell did it on a much smaller budget.

 

We’d be in league 1 now if it wasn’t for those precious, holier than thou fans.

 

Lad I know rates Artell highly. Did well bringing young players through at Crewe, not sure if that's the sort of manager we're after as we don't bring through many young uns.

 

He certainly wants to build a team and improve players.

 

Maybe but we will never know.

Some people forget that Evans had flopped at a few clubs before going to Stevenage. I think it had been about 9 years since he had a promotion to his name.

So promotion under him would not have been the foregone conclusion a lot seem to think

 

I can't see Artell for the same reason. If they hired him and admitted promotion is a 2 year plan for example, people would be fuming.

If we were in L1, I reckon a 2 or 3 year plan is more palatable. But as weird as it sounds just getting out this division by any means is probably more important to most fans than planning out the future.

 

The clubs he’s managed since leaving Rotherham were unlikely to be challenging for promotion.
Leeds were in disarray.
Mansfield were newly promoted and still settling back into league football.
Posh he probably could have done better but wasn’t there long enough.
Gillingham - a league 1 club at the time with no money.

He’d have took us up with the budgets given to Adams and Hughes.

 

I still can’t comprehend why he is the only manager who “guarantees” promotion.
No other managers(even those with better recent records)have this certainty associated with them.
Admittedly he’s done well with Stevenage last season and this,but most of his record before that when his name was shouted loudest,was piss poor.

 

He left Mansfield in the top 7 and took Gillingham to their highest finish for 10 years.
He was far from a failure. For perspective, Parky's win rate with us was 38% -

 

I bet whoever gets the job will eventually be about the 4th or 5th to be offered it.

I fear in EFL circles the club is fast becoming a basket case.

 

His record is far from piss poor. Do some research

Lasted 9 months at Leeds
Lasted 11 months at Posh.
