I'm warming to the idea. He's clearly liked by all, Osadebe said the players want him there. I think if he'd played the last 3 or 4 years more often, he'd be more open to it. But as he missed so long, practically his final prime years, I totally get that he wants to try and play a bit more than the 540 minutes he's managed so far this season.

Tough one to weigh out for Kev, as he's finally back on a pitch after so long and that's all he would have been thinking about for the last few years.

An exciting and interesting appointment. But further proof of the ridiculously short-term thinking of owners. Liam Manning played what is described as "attractive football". In came Graham Alexander who signed players in the summer to fit in with his "more industrial" football. Now he's been sacked and replaced by someone who plays even prettier football than Manning did.
Winkelman will have to show a lot more patience than he has before. Give him time and Williamson could produce something wonderful. But time is something managers get very little of and I fear there could be some calamitous times if he tries to impose his style with that squad. But I hope he is wise enough to apply "horses for courses" tactics for his first few months at least.

I was hoping Rupp being in the UK last weekend (he'll be getting a nose bleed) might have been with regards him not being here long as our custodian all hypothetical of course, but your right why would Parky want to give up I would assume a very well paid job at Wrexham where it looks like he gets what he asks for with regards signing players, obviously once teams know the likes Wrexham come calling the price goes up, I'm with you I just cant see it, but I wouldnt turn him down if it was Parky for all the past history of managers returning.

I get why he was offered the job, I also get why he would take the job, but MK Dons doesn't scream long term project to me. Alexander tried playing a fancy lower league tiki taka type thing of keeping the ball at all costs and it didn't work.

I heard at the time Phil Parkinson was in charge here (not sure which season) that his salary was £50,000 basic, plus £1,000 for every point we got over 50. One season we finished on 65 points, therefore £65,000 salary.

Yes I remember that being in the T&A after his first season(2012-ish), fairly certain he accepted the one of the lowest salaries in L2 at the time after he had a tough time at Charlton towards the end. Signed a new bigger contract when we got promoted, imagine he was on a fair whack then.

That strikes me as a very sensible idea. It should be offered to the candidates now. If they believe in themselves they'll take the deal.

£50k basic is absolutely nothing, and way way undervalues a FM , especially when the average wage in the working population is only £32k and that includes all the poor souls on minimum wage.
    That’s being silly, sorry.

I'm more thinking about if we sack him in 2 months we'll end up paying his full playing wage but not having the benefit of having him as a player

That’s the choice the club has to make , but the contract side of things is far easier a decision than the playing side.

You have to factor inflation in, as £50K in 2012 would be just under £70K now. Add the additional points bonus in at around £1400 per point and it becomes more acceptable.
I would guess that sum would be equivalent ( with the bonus) to a Secondary School Head Teachers Salary and a bit more than a Police Chief Superintendent earns.

We’ve got two very difficult games coming up in Wrexham at home and MK Dons away who will probably have the new manager bounce. Let’s see how we’re doing after those two games before we get carried away with appointing McDonald, although I agree he’s making a very good first impression.

It was the principle rather then the actual financial figures that I was agreeing with. Obviously I wouldn't expect the new manager to be offered the same amounts as Parkinson accepted twelve years ago.

But if the next manager and his assistant were offered a combined £150.000 p.a. plus a large bonus for promotion that would be quite attractive I'd have thought. £5,000 for every point over eighty could also be in there.

I'm sure there are some good managers/head coaches interested in the Bradford City vacancy. They must be getting rather worried about when and where they'll ever get another chance to prove themselves. I'd expect they'd back themselves to be successful and reap the full rewards.

I’ve kept my powder dry on this thread so far, but I must thank big Kev for giving me my enthusiasm back which had totally gone under Hughes.

That said I hope there is a proper interview process going on for the next manager, and we don’t just give it to him on the back of a couple of games. I don’t want another appointment that we’ve gone after because they performed miracles on a low budget or hire someone because we’re starry eyed at their name. It’s about time the club had an identity and recruited accordingly. If Kev wants to apply then great, but we need a proper process. It always staggers me how quick people are to swing one way or another depending on a couple of games. Had Austin not missed two absolute sitters and Wimbledon not hit the post this place would be in meltdown at not appointing someone by now.

Absolutely, the PP rumour is almost certainly a no go. Unless he has a heartfelt deep attachment and yearning to come back then he wont have the remotest interest in the VP job. He's far too professional to become emotionally embroidelled, and his only thought currently pertaining to us is plotting our downfall this weekend.

He's building a squad armed with a good budget ( L2 accepted), expensive players form the spine of his side, allowing his ideal set-up of three at the back, five in midfield.
Contrast this to the budget here, he'd may have adjust to accomodate. The old McCardle to Hanson to Wells haha

Great Post. My feelings exactly. I too hope there is a proper strategy in place to recruit the right person this time, someone who will implement an effective/enjoyable style. I think RS has found himself in a great position to take his time. There's no real time limit/rush rght now. Keep KMc doing what he's doing. If this roll continues then great, the longer he's in role than the clearer it'll be just to how good a job he's doing. Let's see how KMc bounces back from a bad result which will inevitably come.

In addition, the longer we give him, the longer we have for other managers who might be a better fit than the current crop of applicants, to become available.

We have to do the above. Just appointing someone from the merry go round is not due diligence. In some ways it is secondary what they have done before it is what they are going to do here that matters. Our Kev is demonstrating what he has learnt previously on the field. Of course he is going to loose a game it stands to reason but it is how deals with disappointment and how he lifts the players to go again and properly reflect on what went wrong and what we can do to correct. In that sense he is having a trial which the others don’t have.
At some point Lady Luck may decide to put in an appearance at VP. I like our Kev, gut feeling I know but he just looks at home at VP. What he lacks in experience in management he has life experience of disappointment which he no doubt will use.

This is for those who think we ought to have a “proper manager” just imagine the scenario of a manager being appointed and he is unable to get the team going then what? All we have heard so far is Truman scenario of it all going wrong. I want to see how he handles Parky, he doesn’t have to win but we do have to be in the game.
