Summer 2023 Transfer Rumours

If we land one of the names banded about we will be doing well. We need to be finding the talent before they cost a fortune

 

Personally I'd prefer Sharpe & Agyei, could we possibly add Wright to that list, will he get game time at Plymouth in the Championship ?.

 

It's all part and parcel of preseason for fans to put names forward that realistically we have little or no chance of signing.

 

Cole Stockton has already stated he won't be dropping back down to league 2 .

 

He would be top of my list of names mentioned this summer, however, don't think we have much chance.

 

Our turnover of £7.3 million last season should have been bettered this year with gates being approx. 3,000 higher on average than the year before. New sponsorship - Morrisons being a notable one - has hopefully increased revenue once again. And, of course, no Derek Adams to pay off. I suspect our 'war chest' could be quite a healthy one.

If we are going with a leaner and meaner squad then we should be able to offer some very competitive terms to our targets.

Although some of the suggestions are probably unrealistic I do hold quite a bit of optimism this transfer window for securing some quality signings.

I did note Wrexham are claiming to be going with a player budget of 2x greater than the best budgets in League 2. I was surprised to read this, particularly if I understand the fair play rules correctly, ie the playing budget cannot exceed 55% of a clubs turnover. I doubt their turnover is larger than ours - it was just under £6 million the previous season.

Would be interested to understand their business model though.

 

Cole Stockton won't drop back down into League Two. He's more than proved himself in a League above whilst playing in an abysmal Morcambe team.

Billy Sharp could still do a job in League 1, despite his age, even if he does drop down into League Two, Id imagine he'd go to Doncaster

Bradley Dack was one of the best CAM's in the lower leagues over the last decade. However, as someone else rightly stated, his injuries have pilled up an he struggles to get a full 90 minutes in. Why would we care about injury prone players?

Besides a brief 6 month stint last season, Wright has no connection to us. He could go anywhere else. He could easily get a team from League One that will offer him regular playing time.

I admire the ambition from some of our fans, but every season we start day dreaming about signing players that are unrealistic to say the least, an then everyone is up in arms when we eventually sign players that we have never heard of.

I didn't know who Harry Lewis was before last season, now he is one of the best shot stoppers in League 2. Many wanted Andy Cook out last year, an he ended up scoring 30 goals. All these big name signings like Smallwood an Chapman, an to an extent, Walker, Failed to live up to expectations so whats to really say who is good enough to sign for us an who isnt?

 

Another thing, many people on here, including myself, will pop in here to see the latest transfer gossip about Bradford City. Its nice to read on who we may or may not be in for or even go as far as knowing who other League 2 clubs have signed. Why is the last 5 pages about Financial regulations an Wrexham sponsorship money? Make another forum an talk about it there

TBH I find it depressing. We don’t have superstars that own us therefore talk of signing high quality players is not something we could afford I would think. This is where your scouting comes in. In any event it is not only money that gets you promoted, it helps but it is playing as a team+fans+management that takes you all the way.

Why do folk get so uppity and upset when a thread goes off on a tangent? First world problems eh?

 

Like Odour perhaps? Or Patrick or Gibson? We need to give these players chance to grow before we write them off.

I put on here ,I would settle for mid table ,but these are relatively good signings for League 2 so maybe we can do a bit better .

Wrexham will blow out the league budget wise ,as somebody said it's a free for all first season up so my god when players contracts expire (I think it's end of June ,expect some silly signings from them ).

 

Careful. You will upset some posters talking about non Bradford transfers.

 

Patrick and Gibson are bang average, lower league 2 fodder, at best. That's why they can't get in the Carlisle side in a regular basis.

If they hadn't been here prior no one would even know who they are.

 

Joe Ironside has signed for Donny - good striker at league 2 level - expect them to be up there.

 

Yes. Maybe rules them out of signing Sharp.

Bit of a strange one that, got to meet him a couple of times when he was here (Carlisle), came across as a bit of a 'big time Charlie' to be honest, (we had signed him from Hearts). Did absolutely bugger all for us in 12 appearances, scored one goal, a 'tap in' if memory serves me correctly. As soon as Sheridan took over he got rid of him.
Can't help thinking he hasn't changed much, and if its true what another poster typed about him not dropping down to Division 2, I'm sure most lower division players would sell their Granny to play for Bradford, but instead he'll probably end up at Cheltenham or Burton!!
So no doubt we'll probably re-sign him now......................aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!
