To finish where we did was a big improvement on previous seasons and gives us a platform, but Im with you on Smallwood, all told a waste of space especially right when it mattered, including that pen at crewe, from a captain - hopefully he will retire in the summer. Poor signing well past his best, he simply doesn't have the legs

If he is, Hope he loses sone weight, he's a bit chunky, I've been very dissapointed with him, he was so good at Huddersfield , but apart from an odd game, he's been invisible

    The season summarised:
Lewis : Good shot stopper. Distrubtion has been shit last 3 months. Judging by their 3rd goal, its evident to see why he's in League Two
Halliday : Im not a fan. Said it from the get go an got pelters. We need an upgrade
Stubbs : Decent enough defender. Needs fast players around him to cover his lack of pace, something we dont have
Crichlow : Promising player. Id sign him.
Platt : Standard LG2 CB. Could improve, might not, lets see
Ridehalgh : Upgrade this guy. please. He's not good enough. How have we gone from having James Meredith 10 years ago to this

Gilliead : Covers the hard yards but has no end product an doesn't like passing forward
Smallwood : The less I say the better
Clayton : Short term passing is good, but his legs have clearly gone
East : The one CM I actually rate in this team, an Hughes never plays him

Chapman : Give him a full season on the left, an lets see what he can do
    Osadabe : A bit of a donkey
    Costelloe : headless chicken
    Nevers : Dogshit
Perriera : Your guess is as good as mine
Walker : Good player but not effective enough, then again, when hes one of 3 attacking players in the team, its kind of hard to do shit
Banks : The best winger weve had in years. Raw but isn't afraid to be inventive
Cook : I wish you luck wherever you go. The best striker we've had at this club since Wells
Oliver : Good target man. Shame we never actually used him in this role, we'd bring him on an then pass the ball around the back for ages
Derbyshire : Good squad player to have

Hughes : Tactics are dog shit. Play is predictable. The team is sooo slow, Steven Hawking could outpace it. Makes daft substitions at the worst of times, and predictable ones at the best of em. Refuses to acknowledge that his setup isnt working and wont change it till the 70th minute. Also has a habit of keeping fatigued players on the pitch. Insists on having the entire team sit back when winning, or more oddly enough, drawing. Plays the slowest midfield in the history of man. Comes out with some bullshit excuses when we lose, even though we all saw it coming

Onto next season. If he can buy 3 solid midfielders, some attacking full backs, a couple of good wingers, an deploy a system where our sole striker isn't isolated as if hes on fecking Antarctica, then I might have some hope about getting promoted

Agree with all of that apart from Halliday who all told prob has the highest performance average for the season after Lewis, Cook and possibly Walker. I'm gutted for him that he saved his 3/10 performance for the most important game of the season.

Just had a quick recap on the “Player of the season apart from Cook and Lewis” thread.

Apart from a few votes for Stubbs, the vast majority of posters picked Halliday.

How did we get from that to todays performance.

Everybody is allowed a poor performance but for somebody who has been so consistent all season to put in a showing like today is baffling.

It’s amazing how many people come on here and praise the signing of managers until they fail and it’s down to who hired them.
Everything was put in place for a successful season and it was ultimate failure 100% due to football management.
Hughes didn’t come into the season cold he had 6 months to prepare. He was quoted as saying he had signed the big majority of his targets in the Summer. And once again he was fully backed in the January window.
Yes over the years there has to be culpability from above but certainly not this season

true I feel a bit sorry for Cook, and Hughes has taken the piss a bit by making him fed on scraps these last two games , long balls punts upfield to him against a big back line, stuck up front alone, with no one within 20 metres of him. Not the way to get the best out of the leagues top scorer.

I'd have breathalysed him in the changing room after the game. I just couldn't understand what happened to him.

Can't agree with East have no idea he's on the pitch when he comes on. Lightweight and goes missing.

Also hughes said post match defeat today had nothing to do with tactics. Baffling and a serious worry if he really believes that.

Maybe too many games with no competition. When fit he knows he plays every minute of every game.

Remember how much an improvement we made when we are watching a 0-0 Draw against Forest Green
On a cold wet November evening along with another 5k fans
Smallwood shouldn't be anywhere near the team never mind captain next season I agree
Ah well onwards and upwards (hopefully)
We are where we are for a reason

Its why I dislike him. He can never accept responsibility. He was probably racking his brains to find some way he could pin the loss on the referee as well.

I personally think league 2 will be more difficult to get out of next season. I’m royally pissed off tonight.

We also need a miracle with recruitment to secure another play off season, never mind moving forward.

'We'll be better next season '

What is this based on Hughes and Sparkes? We want to know what this is based on , would like to believe but not sure how right now

Don’t worry, some on here will find a way of blaming Drysdsle for us not getting promoted.

There’s still people on here blaming the ball boy against Mansfield for us not winning a game.

Given the quality of some of the players he brought into the club, Hughes appears to have been backed in both the summer and the January transfer windows. He has a strong squad but we haven't got the best out of them imo. Does the support he's had this season infer he is building towards next season? Er, no! I was listening to one of his recent interviews where he said that 'the intention is to get out of the division this season'. That doesn't suggest to me anything other than saying promotion this season was our target. I don't for one minute believe that all of his squad rebuilding was in anticipation of building towards next season. We underachieved measured our own intention.
