Orient weren't on it but were still clearly the better side. Their number 15 - exactly what we need. A defensive midfielder who's always on the half turn and looking to play forward.

I thought Osedebe did really well at the end.

 

The plus is that we got the point we needed. And it's the only thing that matters today. But that performance was awful. Itd be easy to put it down to nerves and pressure, and that was no doubt a factor. But it was the back foot, passive football that we've played all season.

We have to its possible to win the playoffs without passing the ball forward

 

Why play forward when sideways or backwards keeps the ball???

Does my nut in that Smallwood, Gilliead, are always looking to pass sideways. Just get your head up and move forwards ffs.

All about purpose. When Orient played backwards it was done because there wasn't a forward ball on and it was to enable a forward pass. We just do it as a matter of course. It's awful football.

 

We are more than capable of losing to any of the 3 other play-off teams however Stockport are the team that I fear most. I am not optimistic that we'll go up.

 

Me neither. Very low confidence. Don't trust Hughes approach, or the quality in key areas. We still don't know our best formation or 11.

 

If we win it won't be pretty. It will be some turgid, depressingly dull performance with a goal from a free kick or some scrambled effort. The players are capable of doing more, the tactics mean they are playing with the handbrake on.

 

Job done in the end. As many of us have said, performances don’t really matter at this time - it’s results. Would have been interesting how the game panned out had that early Crichlow chance converted.

Thought Clayton quality and more so experience showed in a game which we very much needed it. Bravo Halliday for taking on the chance, despite the deflection. HT 0-1 down would have been a different scenario - hugely important goal.

Crewe was tough to swallow. Bravo to Hughes and the squad for brushing ourselves down and doing what was needed today.

 

I had great seats. Half way line, main stand, near the back. Perfect and even view of everything.

The difference in approach play was stark; when they played out, every time they had 4 strung across the top and midfielders in pockets, always on the turn and looking to play forward, forward runners, direct players on the ball. Whereas we had Cook on his own, backwards and sideways all the time, no runners and a passive attitude.

 

I don't think we'll do it either.

Unfortunately I just don't feel we have the quality we need. Can see 2 draws against Carlisle.

We feel like we're one season behind where we need to be. Orient had the kinds of players we need, while we're just a little bit too slow and lacking a little bit of quality.

 

I think you are being very harsh saying that performance was awful.
