In fairness, he hasn't scored 16 past City alone.

Coventry it was, on loan from Burnley.

He looked an absolute beast that day too and bullied our centre halves.

Aye that's it. He's one of 2 players that have really impressed me this season. The other being Dan Kemp at Hartlepool.

    Of the current squad :
    Banks
    Crichlow
    Bola
    Nevers
    Costelloe
    Perriera
return to their parent club at the end of the season
Banks an Crichlow have played a big part in our season. Would like to see both back next season, but its unlikley seeing as we will most likely be in League 2.
Perriera hasn't kicked on from last season, Costelloe an Nevers have been poor.
    We've barely seen Bola play.

The players out of contract at the end of the season are :
    Andy Cook
    Liam Ridehalgh
    Alex Gillead
    Abo Eisa
    Adam Clayton
    Oscar Threlkeld
    Luke Hendrie

Eisa, Ridehalgh, Threlkeld should be moved on

Clayton, albeit a good player, may not have the legs to play again next season but il leave that up to Hughes

I can see What Gilliead brings to the team, an he will most likely be offered a contract as Hughes is a fan

Cook is the main one. I dont think any fan will want to see him leave, but its up to City to determine how badly they want to keep him

Regardless, We need a CB, LB, CM, a couple of wingers an a striker. All of whom need to be quality signings, no squad fillers

This is the lad who Dave Baldwin told us he'd offered to City, not sure if it was in Parkys day or McCalls time at the club.

Think it was McCall and the play off final defeat season. This lad and Chris Long who scored last night were both in Burnleys youth team. From memory, one or both of them were on the list of names McCall and Abbott were reading out when talking about signing a striker in January on the Edin Rahic ego DVD/documentary.

Recruitment was weird looking back. The loan moves especially, I mean signing Wright and Pereira on deadline day when we probably just needed one, then adding Nevers and Costelloe with neither looking up to it. Banks and Critchlow massive positives. I get what you mean about consultation between Hughes and Gent, a lot of the permanent signings already have worked either either Hughes or Gent before.

Walker was already here. Lewis & Derbyshire had worked with Hughes before. Chapman, Smallwood, Halliday, Clayton & Stubbs all worked with Gent at Boro.

East, Platt, Osadebe, Young, Odusina, Oliver & Kelly were the only ones to have not worked with either previously and only Platt has really broken into the team. Hopefully with Gent having a full year under his belt, we have a better view on players, as i doubt the guys he was working with their or looking at for Boro will be on the same radar as City.

I heard the same link but through my old boss at the time, who ran some kind of supporters thing at Burnley but got involved with Dave setting up like charity nights for the supporters club, if I remember rightly. But yes, same thing one summer he was told at a Burnley event that they had some promising youth and they were working with City over two loans, Dan Agyei and Josh Ginnelly. Obviously neither happened, fairly sure it was the summer McCall came back.

In a recent decision, an independent arbitration panel upheld a claim against a salary cap in League One and League Two. The salary cap, introduced by the English Football League (EFL) on 7 August 2020, prohibits the overall player salary remuneration above 2.5 million in League One and a cap of 1.5 Million in League Two[1]. The Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) opposed the salary caps and sought arbitrary action. Following the arbitral decision the EFL have withdrawn the salary caps[2].

    https://www.blasermills.co.uk/insights/article/the-efl-withdraws-salary-caps-on-league-one-and-two/

I would love to see the source of that "proposed cap".

if you are referring to the EFL wanting to mirror the UEFA rules of "The regulation limits spending on wages, transfers, and agent fees to 70% of club revenue." I have not seen any club nor the EFL motion this plan so again I would like to see this proposed cap you mention.

The version of FFP used in the EFL's Leagues 1 & 2 is a salary cap. There is no debate about that that. Formally, it is called the Salary Cost Mansgenent Protocol or SCMP and has been in use for more than a decade in the lower leagues. It's fully described and defined in one of the appendices of the EFL's Regulations - appendix 5 from memory. In essence, it restricts lower league clubs from spending more than a fixed % of their different revenues on players' wages.

You don't appear to understand that what the PFA objected to was a severe tightening of the existing salary cap without consultation with them. It would have introduced a fixed salary cap of £1.5 m for League 2 clubs which is unrelated to a club's revenue and would have depressed players' wages once fully implemented. Not surprisingly, the revised system didn't get the go ahead. The FFP regime instead reverted to the existing SCMP formula which means today, the club's still operate within a salary cap related to the club's turnover; the greater the turnover, the higher the salary cap for an individual club.

Having been promoted to the EFL, Wrexham would of course become subject to SCMP.

My understanding is that as long as the owner is happy to underwrite the losses, then the SCMP becomes almost irrelevant?

Salford can't have been within SCMP guidelines without Neville etc. underwriting the losses?
Neville said on the Class of 92 series, that Salford were paying more in wages to Centre Backs than some clubs whole playing budget. I think they had five and they couldn't get any to leave because they were earning so much.

    three points here from me.

    1) I am familiar with SCMP... - interested bystander said "proposed" SCMP as we both know is already implemented. Why did you ignore this point?

    2) their current spending would not put them into violation of SCMP as its 55% of turnover on wages - their turnover last season was just shy of £6m
    https://www.wrexhamafc.co.uk/news/2023/march/statement--annual-report-and-financial-statements-year-ending-june-30-2022/
the football costs were £4m but as you well know football costs is not just wages and there are monies that can be used to reduce the SCMP burden - hospitality being one of them.

another just being straight up donations to the club.

"Crucially, the FL Turnover figure includes donations from the owners to the club and injections of equity."
    https://www.financialfairplay.co.uk/scmp.php

    3) the point highlighted in blue is something I have already stated if you had bothered to go through my sources - please read through my post and sources fully before commenting, thank you.

Correct - Donations to the club come into SCMP rules I.E. Neville and Co. writing cheques to underwrite the losses as donations.

Not entirely. There is some misunderstanding here. First of all, the SCMP are not guidelines; they are enforcable regulations which can lead to fines and points deductions if they are breached.

Secondly, I don't understand what you mean by 'covering the losses' in this context. SCMP is a calculation based on a club's 'revenues'. Whether a club makes a profit or a loss is academic in SCMP terms. That might appear counter intuitive in a regime which is supposed to stop clubs becoming insolvent but that's how it has evolved in the lower leagues.

However, if you mean the owner providing a loan to the club to enhance the playing budget or some other reason then that is not included in 'revenues' for the purpose of calculating the salary cap. If instead the owner injects some equity into the club to enhance the playing budget etc and it cannot be reversed at a later date then that is included in SCMP 'revenues'. A donation from the owners would be treated similarly but of course without any change in equity levels.

That's in essence how Salford have done it. Neville and Co own a company which itself owns 50% of Salford. Peter Lim owns the other 50% through one of his companies. Neville & Co and Lim both put extra cash into their companies which in turn injected more equity into Salford. This enabled the SCMP cap to be increased.

Any club could do that if their owner wanted to inject more equity and it has nothing to do with whether they make a profit or a loss.

Yes, so they are underwriting losses by making donations to the club, which in turn increase revenue and stay within SCMP.

Players we should be looking at for L2

    Agyei
    Kemp
    Cargill
    Norman
    Keilor Dunn
    Armer
    Monthe
    McAleny
    Oates
    Tyreik
    Knoyle
    Bristow

Fully expecting Cook, Banks,Crich and Lewis to be leaving, I'd also sell/ get rid of/ send back Eisa, Derbyshire, Gilliead, Ridehalgh, Nevers,Periera, Bola, Walker,Hendrie, East, Odusina, Costelloe, Doyle,Clayton and Threlkeld.

One year we will have a squad that looks like its capable of pushing on the following season, sadly it isn't this year.

Why do a lot think Lewis will leave this summer.

He is under contract, will someone offer a transfer fee that would be too good to turn down?

At the moment, Lewis is a league 2 keeper and nothing more. Yea he is a good reactionary keeper, but his (lack of) decision making at key times and his kicking distribution is absolutely woeful. Hopefully will improve obviously

Personally I cannot wait to see the back of Eisa. Huge disappointment
