He didn’t even do that tonight. Usually he helps out the fullbacks but he looked off it tonight. Maybe illness? I don’t know. But he didn’t have the same energy he usually brings

I'd say the problem is that we are *both* good enough and not good enough. In other words, consistently inconsistent, even within matches let alone match to match. Plenty of blame to be shared out for that, between players and management. But then, look at our squad and subs bench -- as I mentioned a few matches ago, who do we have there to settle things down, or lead the charge? The calming veteran, the game-changer from pace or skill or both, the player(s) who've won promotions and know what it takes? That comes down to recruitment.

We are what we have promised to be all season, a playoff-level side, but not an auto-promotion side. Today should have seen us cement that playoff spot, and we should still have done what it takes to see the game out, pyromorons or no. Now we have to earn it the hard way, or hope for huge favours from others. As for promotion through the playoffs, I just don't know. That inconsistency, that ability to bottle it at the worst times, worry me.

We're certainly much better than we have been for 5+ years, but equally we are very much a work in progress, as exasperating as that may be. If this is going to be 79/80, let's hope we skip 80/1 and go straight to 81/2. Keeping Cook would seem to be somewhat vital for that.

I genuinely don’t believe you think that. Wright is possibly one of the worst signings in recent history in terms of what he was brought in for.

Sadly for the first 2/3’s of the season Smallwoods dead balls were really poor. However there’s been significant improvement in recent weeks. As for leadership I’ve said since he arrived Clayton has been one of the factors we’re even still in play off contention and I maintain that, so struggle to see why if fit, he doesn’t play. Cause agree, we need more than what just Smallwood offers.

As a team we.are.completely reliant on Andy Cook. Yet another goal and assist. If we are gonna succeed through this playoffs it will be through him. Because tonight out normally reliant centre back partnership had an off night and that midfield will always continue to be out weak soft underbelly

100% agree, tonight we did. Same for Crawley and Swindon away. Gillingham, Rochdale and Hartlepool at home. There’s no rose tinted glasses been worn here, far from. But we are still going in to the last game of the season with a play off place been sat in our hands, not the mercy of others.

There’s been plenty of talk about momentum. If we sink to all doom and gloom and act like the season is over after tonight, then we may as well not turn up on Monday.

It wasn't gonna happen next weekend in terms of autos so this was a stupid decision to go for it having got back in the game and a foot in the door for the playoffs and playing lets face it a decent pacey side (something we seem to lack) .

This probably falls at Hughes door as dropping a big bollock it was way too gung ho when you have the champions in your next game.

I have to say I’d be more annoyed if we played well and undeservedly lost. However we were awful and got what we deserved, which was nothing.

If you look at the season as a whole, we are exactly where we deserve to be. We haven’t shown we are worthy of autos whatsoever, and now even the play offs are in jeopardy. It wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if we dropped out. At least it would save the pain of not getting through them as I can’t see us being the best team over 4 games.

I mean, the good thing is Mansfield Town actually winning at Colchester United is hardly a sure thing.

They're as bad as we are for bottling games.

Hughes is at fault all around. Carp football and carp results given the resources. Get him and Hodges out of my club. I suspect Cook will go elsewhere. Boy what a mess.

Give some of the fringe players some time on Monday. Not enough to see us weaken but enough to share some minutes out and give Cook, Walker, Halliday etc a rest. We need to just not lose and if Mansfield are winning, bring Cook etc on. We still can make five subs even if Hughes never does that

They have had some big scoring away wins and have scored 70 goals this season they are quite capable of a good win down there

    I mean, they actually scored.

The penalty acted as a delay.

We weren't getting out of that, we messed it up, the referee didn't even need to give a penalty to sink us as we conceded anyway.

I don’t, I would rather rely on Lewis to make a save from open play than a pen. Obviously in the heat of match play you don’t always get time to weigh up the pros and cons. However, I am angry that he has been captain all season and on field decision maker. Clearly he had been a very good player but he is inconsistent and you never quite know what kind of game you are going to get from him. If Clayton is fit, play him. Cool head, good anticipation of the game and communication very good.

Well obviously they CAN win that game, but if they missed out on the play offs is due to not beating sides like Harrogate, Grimsby and Rochdale.

Not exactly the creme de la creme.

    In fact...

It sounds frighteningly similar to us!

If you've got no faith in us to win when it counts, Mansfield Town are exactly the same lol

Lewis didn't save the shot from open play, though.

They scored anyway, and were furious the referee had given them a penalty instead.
