Exactly what he said. But he was referring to their centre back, Alfie kilgour, who didn't bother to run back and created the overload by having him and the strikers at the far post. It was their centre back who scored from a cross by the full back.

He wasn't talking about any of our players.

I thought yesterday was a good game both teams putting a lot of effort in and a decent referee. Gilliead playing as captain made a great start and Cook just showing what a striker he his. Unfortunately maybe due to lack of fitness and changes in the second half we let it slip away . Chapman not passing the ball from his break late on cost us would have been 2-0 . We need to keep the faith it’s going to be long season .

Yes I understand that. I know he's referring to their centre half.

I agree. We played well in the first half and deserved our lead. There were some good performances from some players including as you say Gilly. Had we scored a second, it would have been a reasonable reflection of the first 45 mins. But then everything seemed to change with their halftime subs.

Mansfield changed their pattern. They played 3 at the back; brought on 2 pacy players; overran midfield and pressed us hard. They did to us what some other teams have done and we fail to deal with an opposition who press us with pace. As is our way, we responded by playing a little deeper and put ourselves under pressure. For some reason, Hughes didn't respond quickly to their changes and it came as no surprise to me that they eventually equalised. Unfortunately with Smallwood not available and Songo'o having moved on, we had nobody who could break up their play.

It's been said from the early days that Hughes struggles at times to deal on the fly with a change of tactics by the opposition. He has a plan and sticks to it despite what the opposition does. And yesterday was another example of that imo. He is very inflexible when changes are needed.

Having just watched the highlights there's a strong argument that Cook should have passed to Eisa too, although at least Cook managed to force a save out of the keeper

I'm not defending Chapman. He clearly should've released earlier but he was trying to create half a yard to make sure the pass found Nevers. A split second delay and the moments passed. You see similar incidents all the time so he shouldn't be hammered for it. Could he have done better? Of course he could.

I use Nord, but the I-Follow Barstewards worked out I was in the UK last season. So I have given up! Thankfully saw yesterdays game while out of the country, so disabled Nord and able to watch.

How many times have we seen this already this season. We fail to stop the cross and concede a free header at the far post. I don't care how good our fullbacks are going forwards if they can't do their job in defence.

he’s a forward thinking player ????? Who creates very little ......... doesn’t realise a ball when there are clearly better options around him and his shooting is more likely to Twit someone in the Bantams bar than the oppo keeper in a nutshell he’s been very poor ...........

Add to the fact that Nevers had to finish it off. I’m not 100% sure he would have. He played a few hopeless passes once he was on, I’m thinking he’s not a clinical finisher. That said, he should have been given the chance.

Always the danger with the diamond is you can lose the centre of the park if a team loads the middle. And once it was clear we were running out of steam around 65 minutes Mansfield took full advantage. As it stands this team ain't good enough to go up, that second half analysis stat that shows us in 21st position pretty much kills our chances unless the fundamental problems can be rectified

There were some encouraging signs yesterday with some of the new arrivals. Clayton and Walker seem to be on a similar wavelength and Bola looks a better prospect than in his first game. It may be that some of the others will improve things once they get their chance. But for me, the issue is our gameplan. Hughes doesn't appear to want to change things during the game particularly when the oppo changes theirs. That will be our Achilles heel imo.

I gave up any hope of an auto spot at the end of last year and didn't expect us to come through the playoffs. I am still of that view but even less confident of even finishing in a playoff spot now! The squad is good enough imo; it's Hughes' tactics and gameplan which will be the limiting factor without improvements in that area.

Oh no doubt about that, I agree with you that they could have had 3 or 4, I was just showing a quote from Hughes who thought we kept them at arms length and that he felt they had 5 or 6 shots which brought no concern

The problem with yesterday from my perspective, was the failure to score the second goal, when we were in the ascendancy.

Apart from the last ten minutes, when we started to be overrun, then we played quite well.

Our inability to hold the ball at the end of the match, and deny them possession was poor.

We lost the ball far too easily.

For a neutral it was an exciting game.

Over two matches against Mansfield, we have got four point from them, which is reasonable.

The loss to Rochdale is the totally embarrassing one.

I think you are right. Which is becoming a major problem in my view. I don’t have a problem with his game plan which is put together after assessing the opposition. However, his inability to change in response to the opposition changes is potentially costing us. We were fatigued, ok what do I do about that. You leave Nevers up with Derbyshire and prop up the defence. Or whatever you can come up with your resources. You don’t just leave it!

Someone said his wife had given birth that's why he wasn't in the side, it will be interesting to see if Hughes brings him straight back, for me after yesterday performance from our midfield he has to sit on the bench, let's see if Hughes agrees.

You not heard first impressions count? Well ours is a school to showcase.
What was the excuse when we were a league 1 club?
    Where is the ambition?
    Assets protect.
    Assets generate money.

The club has nearly maxed what commercial deals they can get from the stadium they don’t own.

It would be ours and others won’t be able to use it . You think people don’t walk or run on the grass at the school?

As a club we are going backwards- that’s been clear for years and if you can’t see that then open your eyes!

Unfortunately when you have players who have played very little competitive football recently that's what you're going to see players running on empty around the 70 minute mark.
Not sure why he brought Nevers on for East like for like Nevers for Esia for me fresh legs to attack the Mansfield defence, Unfortunately once again we shot ourselves in the foot to go along with many other games this season.
Are you now convinced Hughes made a mistake leaving Cook out so long, a very good game yesterday from both sides and Cook delivers AGAIN shame Eisa couldn't have done better with his one on one with Flinders early doors.

The midfield worked yesterday I thought.

Smallwood can’t come straight back in.
