It was a deserved result last night (just) and other than Armstrong's chance, I don't recall Harrogate creating too much danger particularly after Falkingham was substituted.

Hughes appears to have responded to recent cricism of his preferred formation. It was good to see a Plan B being rolled out with a diamond and a front two and the ball being played longer at times. It seemed to work better even though ironically most of the starting XI were the same players who have started recently. There were better performances from Gilly, Sutton and Smallwood than what we've seen recently and I'm putting that down to the change in the formation. There was a better balance to the setup. It was also good to see Oliver starting and he certainly justified that with the ground he covered and taking on their defenders physically. It also gave Wright a freer role and he took advantage of that. The only weakness I saw was that when the diamond went narrow, it created a lot of space for their 15 (Headley?) who looked dangerous at times although he was well shepherded by our defence.

It was far from being a great performance though but much better than recent ones. That comparison probably reflects more how badly we've performed recently! We shouldn't be getting overly excited. There's still much to do if we are to become established as a promotion team.

Not sure how we fully deserved it? We created more clear cut chances against Carlisle, if they hadn't had a dodgy keeper i'm not sure we'd have scored. Only my take on it but its funny how a goal changes someones take on a whole performance. I think we'll play a lot better and lose this season. But, at the end of the day, don't matter how you get the points i guess. Looking forward to seeing new personnel in January and a clear out of the dead wood

Agree with @Rogered Tart@Rogered Tart comment above, aside from the opening five mins or so I thought it was a very ordinary performance, lots of huff and puff but thought we offered very little. I was sat behind the Harrogate owners and directors and they commented how despite us being in 7th (at the time they checked the table on the phone) they felt we weren't any better than them.

The shape was better, Oliver won more headers that first 15 mins than cook as all year, but thought we still lacked creativity. Chapman needs a kick up the arse, a few weeks on the bench might help him.

Glad a few posters on here, still felt we were distinctly average. Reading twitter last night and how people were raving about the performance I thought I'd been to a different game

we deserved it because we looked the better side and it doesn’t matter how the goal went in it did !!!!!!
Did Harrogate create much of note compared to the other teams that have come here and made our keeper work ................. it wasn’t great don’t get me wrong but nobody not even Harrogate can complain about us beating them ........... btw if you went to the FA cup game against them then you could see a massive difference on that game :) ............ it’s stopped the rot it’s given us our first home win since September ............. and bear in mind it’s using a system that the majority of players sent use to yet I thought they did really well ............I serious hope Hughes isn’t tempted to go back to a system that’s clearly not worked for ages

Exactly how i saw it. We weren't really any better than Harrogate but scoring first early made the difference. Well, in my eyes anyway. I still see that midfield as a big problem, Falkingham was the best midfielder on the pitch till he went off injured. Everything we do in that area of the field is laboured. I'm happy with three points but i think a better side than Harrogate would had probably come away with something

Apart from our goal when did we work their keeper? |I thought Oliver gave us more mobility upfront than Cook usually does so i could see him starting again.

    Glad you gave a shout-out to Halliday he did a great job for us in the new shape;

    Right Back

    Right Wing Back

    Right Winger

With Oliver having to help out right side every now and again, no wonder Headley made hay down that side.
Need to give this change a chance as its good to see two up top but fer crying out loud way to narrow- give Halliday some help in front of him and City can get behind team's defences.

Wright was a menace but nearly scored at both ends!

I'm just happy for the 3 points which keeps us in the mix. Performance wise we are where we are with what we've got. Mark may well get a bit more out of them by upping the confidence levels and with the impending return to fitness of Osedebe and Walker we could be stronger. But if they can get it right in the January transfer window we could be revitalised for the final run in.

I don’t think there is any merit in pulling apart the performance. It was distinctly average. Have we seen our team scrap this season? Well that is what we saw last night, not pretty. They really wanted all 3 points and they did it. They scrapped and played as a team at times which was good to see. Harrogate wanted all 3 points from us and certainly were not ready for a City scrapping for every ball. We we’re picking up second ball.

When you are not inform you have to get the points however you get them. Who was the better team? well it was pretty much even tbh. We caught them early doors, great gave us something to hold.

and how many times did they work our keeper ?????
They had one effort on target we had 5 :)
They had 6 efforts on goal we had 13 :)
So at some point with 5 efforts in goal there keeper must have had to do something and apart from the Lewis save they never rarely threatened us at all ........... so I do think it was deserved ............ I actually thought we would be in for a dodgy last 20 minutes but in all honesty we looked like the team more likely ............ didn’t Cook put one wide with Wright steaming in at the back post to try convert it ????
Now please don’t get me wrong it wasn’t brilliant but teams on the back of bad runs tend to stop the rot with a tough fought out game like us last night ............ hell of a lot of work to do but it’s a step in the right direction........... I thought we would lose last night but at least the players showed heart and bottle considering what’s gone on over the last few weeks .......... and I would have a load of games like that than games where we piss around with it and are easy to play against like they did with us in the cup

The difference is we found a way to win. We played a way more relevant to the league we are in and got three points

    Now now let's play nicely.

Would you rather we score unlucky goals? Don't you celebrate lucky goals then?

I have no interest in where you live-where have I asked you that?

I tend to take a bit of time before commenting on matches.
My take on last night . It was generally poor fare , but we were the better of the 2 teams
Harrogate were on the back of 3 straight wins and us of 3 defeats in the league, so the win was hard earned and very much needed to stop the rot, just need to take confidence from it and push on come Sunday. Bar the top 2 , this league is wide open.
Chapman needs a rest and hopefully Walker is back soon, still not convinced with Oliver.

Think we have found the best position for Tyreik Wright :brig:
Playing alongside Oliver and free to roam makes him twice the player who normally is stuck out on the wing.
We could have found a gem there, someone who could be a good goal poacher a la Nahki Wells (should have had two last night - never offside!!)
Hope that come the summer, the club can make moves to sign the lad on a permanent basis.
