After yesterdays defeat just wondering what peoples thoughts are up to now on the season has progressed? My own view, if i had to rate it exam style would be B-. I think Hughes now realises he doesn't have all the jigsaw pieces he'd want in place to implement the way he wants to play. A couple of long term injuries to players who would definitely play some part on a match day hasn't helped but at this stage his midfield and upfront 'six' haven't gelled as an attacking unit. At times we can open teams up, pretty much always down the left but the right side and a static central midfield causes problems. Never really seen us dominate a side for two halves of a game and a lack of goals from anywhere but Cook has to be addressed. Feels like we've hit a bit of a slump right now, as most teams will at some point.
Changes need to be made, i'd like to see East given a run of at least half a dozen games to see if he is upto the task of getting that midfield ticking, whether that be with Gilliead or Smallwood. Banks has to start, he has goals in him and gives the improved Halliday a line ball. Hopefully the inclusion of East will see Chapman allowed to roam in the oppositions half where he is an undoubted threat rather than picking the ball up outside his own box.
Still positive but will start to need to see better first half performances that don't make me want to see changes at half time, something that should have happened yesterday but didn't.

Very fair and balanced assessment. Contrary to a lot of views on here I dont think its all doom and gloom, but we do need to freshen things up.
East has to start and shouldnt have lost his place after Salford. Banks is fit again and we have Walker to come back, along with hopefully a couple of additions in January. We are still well in the mix and whilst we have hit a slump, to compare the position to what we've seen in the last few years is well over the top imo

    Good assessment.

Banks and East have to start for me on Tuesday. I suspect I will be disappointed though.

Walker has been a massive miss for me though

Looked a different side when they came on. Crowd buzz was back straight away. Coming up against some of the better sides next, need to play the right side.

It's not been what most fans expected for sure, we have players who on paper should be outstanding in this league when Smallwood was brought in I thought he would be the instigator of most things in midfield unfortunatly so far over all he's been a disappointment.
So far Cook has done his job but as with any striker he will go through spells of not scoring, yesterday was a chance to start Oliver but for some reason Sparkie preferred Angol who had little effect on the game I'm told, as with yourself the disappointing thing is lack of consistancy we're in a play off place without knowing which Bradford City 11 are going to turn up each half, lose to Mansfield and we could be down to 9th.
Even though we're sat 6th in the league I can't see many changes for Tuesday night, our back 5 pickz itself and will start I can't see him dropping Smallwood, so it's Smallwood and Gilliead or East, I believe Cook will start, and as his preferred formation doesn't cater for two strikers the others positions will be very much the same as we've been seeing Pereira, Wright, Chapman, Banks, as I can't see him starting Angol, having said all that I wouldn't back against us taking 3 points at Mansfield.

I will reserve judgement till Xmas but got a bad feeling come then we will be well off the pace :( we simply have to get up this season folk go in about 2 year plans but are folk seriously gonna sign up for another season of that ?????? We are being outdone by clubs that have got smaller budgets and weaker squads than ours so it’s simply down to Hughes now .............. I’m not saying we should be walking it but we should be performing a lot better than what we are ................. we are into November now and I can’t recall many games that we have dominated the odd spell here there but not a dominant performance ................ let’s just hope yesterday was a wake up call and he does make changes because a few more games of the same XI could turn the fans against him big time

Hard to judge atm I’ll go C+, decent position which could drop like a stone or we could find ourselves top 3 by Christmas.

I’d like to see Dion and Gilliead dropped I just never feel they will contribute in goals or assist terms when they’re on the pitch, wouldn’t be too bad if they were like Nicky Law and helped give us control but they don’t even do that atm.

It's not just a question of City missing out on points it's the way that they do it! Their football is enough to lull anyone to sleep. I for one - and there are many more, look for a game to be entertaining and if it's not then I won't come, nor will I buy a season ticket just to nod off in a borefest.

If that really is the attitude of the club then I’m sure there gonna be far from happy with season ticket sales next term :(

we simply have to get out of this league this season or actually show that we are at least doing something to get the fans excited but neither looks like happening

It doesn’t help when Pereira disappears from his wide position and joins our one off striker up front, numerous times yesterday Halliday was left on his own down that side.We looked much better when Banks came on playing like a old fashioned winger and at least running at the opposition than passing backwards or sideways.

The biggest thing that upsets me is teams seems to work harder than us ,especially closing down its just a basic thing against poor teams if you press high against them they will make mistakes. The only time we have closed a team down quickly was Salford away ,but since then it’s gone back to strolling around and giving teams plenty of time .at times we play like a practice match .we have quick players up front that should be able to close teams down better ,it also gets the crowd up and city playing in the final third more .at the moment it’s all a bit too slow

maybe they just get bored in not receiving the ball and end up wondering to actually get involved in the game ............

Fair assessment but I think a B is very generous Rog. I just don't feel like we have really got out of first gear yet.

I would go with a C-could do much better.

Yesterday should have shaken MH to the core for HIS team to produce that type of performance in the FA cup at home is unacceptable.

Right now I don't have that excitement I had at the start of the season to get down to VP. I know I will be there but that matchday buzz is sadly missing right now. I don't know if its down to the pass around at the back ad nauseum borefest I am about to witness or the lack of cutting edge in the final third. We have the players but they are not delivering on the pitch and that is what MH has to sort out and quickly.

Although Halliday needs Perriera to play the wide role, he's pretty much in effective when he does. The last two games he's only looked effective when he's moved closer to Cook. You're right that Banks is a far bigger threat.

That's a fair assessment Keefley. I was contemplating a C but think at times we do flow well especially the link play with Chapman,, Wright and Foulds and the back four and keeper have done pretty well to be fair. I think the main problem is the lack of link between the front four and back four which was especially evident the last two games. The dynamic of a Lewis O'Brien or Nicky Law is missing, if we are gonna base our game on passing from the back we can't be outpassed in midfield by limited sides like Crawley and Harrogate.

Maybe, but the club don’t see it that way.

Everything is pointing to go up or bust next season.

I think that is a fair assessment Roger. Most of the comments are fair as well. I watched the interview, he looked well p’d off tbh. The arrogance has gone. He also looked crestfallen. I do hope he has good recovery because he is going to have pick himself up and work out what to do next, more of the same is not acceptable.
