What Do These Players Expect From Themselves?

    Genuine question.

I didn't go to the Cup game today due to work commitments, but I've been to the recent performances and I'm at a loss as to how these players keep putting in these limp performances?

Derek Adams got one thing right: you do need players who will run through a wall for you. He needed that more than most, because his tactics were gubbins and he's a Morecambe-level manager.

But when the attacking spark is on it's last legs, like it is for us right now (don't forget we were scoring at least 2 every week not long ago, so it's not a season-long issue), you need something else: brute ****in' force.

Our set pieces are woeful. None of our back line have scored this season, and none look likely. Platt and Crichlow are as much threat from corners as Halliday is from 60 yards.

I know players aren't playing well (Smallwood, Pereira, and Platt to name three), and I know players like Gilliead and Chapman can't shoot for toffee, but come on! Bundle a bloody ugly goal home, put in a blockbuster tackle, give the fans something...

Makes me wonder what these players expect from themselves, because all too often lately they're content to go through the motions. The passing game perhaps means they don't need to take responsibility for themselves, and while Smallwood is an exception, he's off form, pure and simple...

Need better on Tuesday, much, much better, ESPECIALLY if Hughes sticks with the same ten players he's been sticking with. Pereira/Chapman/Wright is lovely on the eye, but one goal between them every other game is nowhere near enough.

I don't get why he's sticking with the same team and formation when all along he's stated if your out of form others will take your place

Half the team is out of form ffs

He came in with a reputation for squad rotation, too, but only seemed to do that when we were on form haha

The team.lacks a ruthless streak and as you say in a lot of games you need to be scoring from free kicks and corners. The two cbs do not carry enough threat and do not seem to be able to dominate in the air from our offensive plays. A talker /dominant/motivating cm should be considered in January as Gillead and Smallwood combination seem not to be working.

The players are quickly losing faith in Hughes as a manager and it is obvious they are losing confidence in him

    Can't see it.

I think we need to reduce the squad size, as Kian can't have been the only one whining, and crack on.

Hughes signed most of these players, and he has my full support in shipping them out in January.

Other than Songo’o who will be Morecambe bound who’s going to take them off our hands.

Hughes is set in his ways and refuses to change. Which means if it doesn't work we are fecked

I’m really starting to become bemused by this season. I’ve posted over several recent weeks this season is so far not meeting expectations. The league position as I keep saying I’m ok with, but the manner which we have got there is missing something - I don’t mean we should be walking teams 5-0 every week.

However todays result is not ok. No disrespect to Harrogate but this is a dreadful result and it’s time to figure out whatever the line should be and draw it in the nearest pile of sand Hughes and the players can find.

This is a very good squad at L.2. Some very decent players others squads would bite theirs hands off for, with arguably a manager every club in our division would dream of. Yet, for some reason, something ain’t clicking and we are beyond the point in the season that we should be waiting for this.

They said it on todays commentary and it’s been said a lot on here, we are still missing that General figure in the squad, ideally in CM. Can that truely really be it? I have my doubts……

Tuesdays game at mansfield get gilliead and smallwood out,and start with east and songo in midfield. There'snot any point in persevearing with a combination that is shit [to put mildly] week in week out.HUGHESmay have been a very good player, but hes starting to show a lot lacking in managerial skills.

Whilst the players are not performing, it’s the failure of Hughes to recognise he is making the same mistakes game after game, week after week.
Lack of intensity, lack of support up top, we seem a man shy in midfield, a man shy when attacking and overrun at the back at times.
Substitutions are too late, like for like.
There are people like Oliver and Songo’o wanting to bust a gut and get stuck in.
East is repeatedly better than Smallwood and Gilliead when he comes on.
I’ve very little to be positive about re Hughes’ tactics and game management right now.

Blame the players all you want I blame the man whose sending them out to bore the crap out of us all :( put it this way if Parky had that type of squad we wouldn’t be hanging on to the rails of the top 3 .............. for all of his so called hoof ball tactics he did go after teams ........... Hughes doesn’t that start to the 2nd half was shambolic after what happened in the first ......... we should have been out after then but didn’t look like doing a thing till 70 minutes onwards .............. he’s worked at a higher level where this type of football may work but at this level it ain’t gonna

Don’t know why it did, but that shocked me. The first 45 were atrocious. We came out and absolutely nothing was different other than Cook for Chapman.
But not to go 4-4-2 and try something different- just shuffle the players round and do the same as we had done so badly in the first half

Shame about yesterday I was hoping to get one of the big guns in the next round like Morecambe, Accrington, Sutton, Fleetwood or Forest Green..
It's a total embarrassment that we are still so far behind those names .....

Songo'O might not be the most technically gifted player in the squad, but every team we face would know he's out there waiting to thunder into a tackle. He rarely let's the side down and I think it's appalling that he's been overlooked for so long and that goes for some of the other players too. For too many games now, underperforming players have been picked and its unfair both on them and other players in the squad. I'm not sure what Hughes is waiting for with this team because from what I've seen over the last few weeks and yesterday in particular, the players are regressing and not improving at all.

Although it hardly matters which 11 he puts out the tactics and set up will be the same ...
Appalling lack of commitment and desire from management and players just now.. (again..!!) ...

I feel it has to come from the management. They've been brainwashed into thinking this way is the best way and having a superstar manager in the dugout, has stopped them questioning what's right and wrong. Platt is getting pelters but surely they practice this scenario in training, so who's not doing what they're supposed to and why are they still in the team?
