    Heading up to Fort William 25th October just trying to formulate an itinerary any top tips? Looking to take in Isle of skye at some point. (it's not a fishing holiday) Mrs Saxons 60th birthday trip. Sent her wing walking for her 50th:geek:

    I can strongly recommend a visit up to the Spean Bridge Commando Memorial. It's only a few miles from Fort William and is a fantastic monument to a brave band of men.

    I believe it's in that location because the Commandos were formed and trained on the Achnacarry Estate which is just down the road. If you can get onto the estate there and concrete mock ups of Second World War landing craft at the side of the road that were used in training exercises. I was fortunate enough to work on the River Arkaig hydro-electric scheme and had to drive through the estate to access the work site, all in all a very beautiful location.
