Re: American moral high ground, I saw this the other day, loved it. Applies to most western nations (and Russia) in some way or another, let’s be honest.

Spot on. It is already costing people dearly. The same people who are waving Ukraine flags.

The US has already been outed for training Ukrainian nazis to terrorise Russians.

Today the situation got worse in this conflict by declaring these regions as Russian it gives him an excuse to use tactical nuclear weapons if they are invaded

In all fairness he didn't just 'declare' any regions as Russian, they held a democratic referendum. But of course as we often see when results don't go the way of certain narratives, people/media cry foul. Just look at Trump's voters for example - they still don't think he lost the election to Biden.

    A "democratic referendum" **so funny**so funny**so funny**so funny**so funny Good grief!

Open voting in the streets, with no privacy. Polling officials knocking door to door with armed soldiers behind them. Vast numbers of the relevant electorates denied a vote because they've already fled Russian bombardment.

That's as much of a democratic referendum as Liz Truss is a Communist.

I'm really struggling to believe that you actually believe what you have written.

It’d surely be the other way round based on nonsensical posts. Though the likes of those who are nonchalantly brainwashed by the British Bullshit Corporation et al are unarguably more idiotic than actual crackheads.

    Were you there?

You or @Offcomedun@Offcomedun know no more about those referendums than I do.

You instead choose to believe an extremely biased narrative, based on one of the most obvious main stream agendas perhaps in peacetime.

The simple fact that Russia conducted the referendum in another country without their authority tells you everything you need to know.

There are plenty of eyewitness reports of what went on.

The overwhelming majority of countries around the world, with the minimal exception of crank outliers like North Korea, have condemned the 'referenda', refused to accept the results and refused to recognise the illegally annexed areas as part of Russia. This includes even hitherto pro-Russian countries like Serbia and India.

The referenda were a sham, designed to persuade/con the Russian people that Ukraine is the aggressor on Russian soil, rather than a sovereign country legitimately liberating its internationally recognised territory.
Only a Putin apologist or a very naive person cannot see that.

It will cost all of us a helluva lot more, for a lot longer, if Russia is not defeated now so thoroughly that i) there is regime change there, and ii) it cannot even think about further invasions for a generation or so. They will remain a threat until any Russian who is now 40 or over is either off this planet or no longer involved in any positions of power. Ukraine was only going to be the beginning; Moldova would probably have been next, and after that the remaining countries right on their borders: Finland, the Baltics, Georgia and the rest of the Caucasus, and then, I'd expect, Poland.

(And I rellay hope you're not serious with that "democratic referendum" bit, but just fishing for a reaction.)

    * * *

Russia's hope for rejoining the civilised world rests in those who grew to adulthood in the post-Soviet era -- but who knows how many of those have now fled, and of those, how many will be willing to return there and rebuild the country from the ground up. As a country it has natural resources, a vibrant culture, many noteworthy sights, and people who have proved -- once removed from Russia itself -- to be worthy inhabitants of their new countries. But they have to eliminate the Muscovite mindset, and face up to the end of dreams of Empire. That is unlikely to happen in the over-40s.

Readings elsewhere led my to the writings of one Timothy Snyder -- well worth reading. This piece looks at the end-stages of this war:

    https://snyder.substack.com/p/how-does-the-russo-ukrainian-war

and links in that article lead back to other interesting works, including one that further links to a very chilling piece -- one Russian's manifesto for the extermination of Ukraine and Ukrainians, published just as the horrors of Bucha were being discovered. A direct link doesn't seem to work, but here is Snyder's piece that then links to the manifesto:

    https://snyder.substack.com/p/russias-genocide-handbook

Obvious from there, but also in general, that "Nazi" has just become a completely meaningless term of vulgar abuse.

Wow! That 'denazification manifesto' issued on an official Russian government platform makes very chilling reading. It explains why they have no compunction about the mass killing of Ukrainian citizens and complete destruction of entire towns and cities.
It's very clear that when Russian officials talk about 'nazis' in Ukraine they mean anyone and everyone who doesn't accept being a subservient subject of Russia.

USA is supplying the new HIMAR rocket that has a cluster killing effect with hundreds of thousands of steel balls that explode in the air and kill everything within a half mile radius, These modern mass killing weapons will force Russia to use its own mass killing weapon which is battlefield nuclear if this carries on

Russia has already been using cluster weapons in civilian areas.
Where have you got this info that the USA is supplying cluster weapons?

I got it from the MSN news and Telegraph news you can read yourself, The new cluster bomb for the HIMAR has the ability to not just destroy things over a few acres it can destroy anything living within half a mile, The advantage of using ball bearings is that they are not left live after deployment,
Ukraine's newest weapon: special Himars rockets that can devastate huge areas in one blast (msn.com)

But at least they're planning to use them against invading/occupying Russian troops, not innocent civilians as Russia has done in Ukraine and Syria.

I don't know if you read the article that River City Bantam posted above:

    https://snyder.substack.com/p/how-does-the-russo-ukrainian-war

It makes a very good point. Many Russian troops are extremely poorly equipped. They certainly won't be issuing all these new, reluctant conscripts with full body PPE. Are they really prepared to unleash tactical nuclear weapons that are likely to irradiate or kill their own troops and potentially cause radiation in Russia itself. And that's not even considering the response they'd get from NATOs far superior conventional forces. I somehow doubt it.
