Yep. I thought it was a decent cross though and I was impressed with Foulds last night.

Yes there's no doubt his goal scoring record was not brilliant last season when he says himself he was carrying too much weight although once again he finished Citys top scorer, but our general play did not help his game chances we created were far and few between.

Foulds had a good game, Tranmere liked to get the ball upfield as quick as possible and put our defenders under pressure I thought Platt was the pick of our defenders.
I wasn't sure about Halliday and thought Hendrie would maybe get his chance but fair does the the kid is getting better with every game he got forward last night when given chance.
I wonder if Sparkie made the Foulds call with regards Tranmeres game plan knowing they would throw crosses in when given the chance with Foulds being better in the air than Ridehalgh.

Imagine, we had not given away two, late, needless set pieces, at Barrow & Colchester, we would be unbeaten in the league to date.

The defending of set pieces, is equally pertinent, if success is to be achieved this season

Me too. He has excellent ball skills for a defender. He bamboozled his marker a couple of times yesterday and once cheekily dinked the ball over his head and ran round him to collect it.
Is Ridehalgh injured? Wasn't on the bench.

    Comment on defending set pieces....

Why do we have everyone in the penalty area such that the oppo can easily take a short throw or short corner. Happened a lot against Tranmere and even when someone was there it was one person and they just passed to each other and then crossed! Surely stopping the crosses in the first place is a better plan?

Hughes spoke afterwards and said Ridehalgh has a minor muscle strain, out for a couple of weeks. (@Bronco@Bronco)

It was probably Smallwood's best corner since he's been in here.

To be honest, given he has played predominantly at higher levels, I was hoping his corners would be better than they have been.

Banks puts some good whip on his. They look very dangerous.

I'll never understand that tactic. I'd always leave one or even two up top on corners. Otherwise you have no out ball and are guaranteed to have to defend a second ball as well as the corner.

He won’t get back in if Foulds plays as well as that!

Couldn't agree more. If we leave someone like Wright out there the opposition would need to leave at least 2 out to mark him too

I can never understand why we have everyone back on corners. As said above if we play one person on half way area the opposition will put two players back. Also we seem to have our players in and around the 6 yard box and the number of them seem to get in each others way, each one thinking the other player is going to clear the ball. How many times do we see chaos when we are defending a set ball situation?
