Agreed, plus police being drafted into London from the regions.

This government doing what they do best which is protect themselves.

If they say cancel things then they would be responsible for any industry financial losses.

PL matches this weekend to be called off.

I expect ELF to say the same.

There’s gonna be uproar if some games are played and others not. Can’t see that happening at all. Those with injuries in their squads will say no, those on a great run will say yes. It’ll be carnage. Never in a million years will the FA let the clubs decide among themselves. Klopp will be first in line to postpone games so he can regroup his team! Needs to be decision of yes or no for all teams.

Time for a new anthem before his coronation. Land of hope and glory would be fine.

Not many people support a monarchy and not many people believe in god. Also the anthem sounds rubbish we have many more which are musically better and also would encompass the entire nation.

It sounds like the midweek games next week will go ahead, and with the funeral planned for a week on Monday, then next weekend's fixures look likely to go ahead. So it is this weekend only.

Just reading from a guy from the athletic. The PL wanted to do their own thing initially but the meetings with the DMCS this morning has changed their opinion and instead ruling with the blanket postponement of all weekend fixtures.

I never have - but why not have one which is more inclusive and praises the nation and not one person who was born into privilege?

What a horrible situation to be your birthright, privileged she may have been but not many would have the job given.

Actually scrap that I have read it again.

"all EFL fixtures from 9-10 September will be postponed" Does that read as all fixtures from this date are currently suspended or on these date. First I read it as this weekend but "From 9-10" reads different to say "On 9-10". That suggests the season is in theory currently suspended.

I totally agree about the need for a new anthem, but Land of Hope and Glory? Seriously? It's a great tune, but the the lyrics!
"Mother of the free" - written at a time when Britain was subjugating half the world.
"Wider still and wider shall thy bounds increase" is clearly a call to expand the empire even further by conquering more countries - understandable at the time it was written, but this would create outrage amongst our former colonies. You might as well disband the Commonwealth immediately if we adopted these lyrics in a national anthem.

At the same time we were the first nation to ban slavery, we were the first to emancipate the working classes and I believe women. You have to consider context. Certainly we are more the mother of the free than the USA is. Given black people only had equal rights in 1972 and still face an upward struggle.

Wider still and wider could now reference a nations quest to grow its economy and influence. Quite apt in this day.

Disappointing, but if its just this weekend, we will cope.

horse racing back on Sunday btw. Musselburgh (Edinburgh) off on Sun, though, understandably.
