Independent time keeper is the way forward. The refs have enough to worry about. Get them micd up and start the cautions early from ref. Too often they get away with it early in a game

You are right like in Rugby League do with an independent timekeeper, Liverpool scored in the 8th minute of extra time even though the ref indicated 5, It needs taking out of there hands

    We'd still be playing Doncaster.

How about a minimum ball in play time assessed by a timekeeper. Something like 60 minutes, and irrespective of stoppages, throw ins, goalkicks etc you just play on until that has been achieved.

Re Trevor's comment re the Liverpool match, you need to remember the time shown on the board is always stated as "a minimum of x minutes". The board usually goes up a minute or so prior to the 90 minutes being up, so if there is further time wasting, substitutions, etc, between then and the end of the stated extra minutes, this should be tagged on.

Liverpool scored on 97.09 minutes, so 2.09 were added on, which included Pope lying down for 90 seconds or so in the added time. Whether it's an independent time keeper or the referees, I wish they would all start adding on the correct amount of time wasted during a game, rather than a fraction of what it should really be, as it might show players it's pointless to keep stopping the game.

This has to happen at some stage. It's way too easy for teams to stop play from 75 mins onwards. I can't see a single reason why this shouldn't be introduced. The only issue is that teams could still time waste to prevent teams gaining any momentum. If teams see value in 'breaking up play, we could see games finishing much later than currently even with the 60 mins.

It can't happen as the paymasters, the TV channels need to have a degree of certainty around the length of a match.

It really annoys me when after the ref gives 4 minutes stoppage time a manager like Klopp will make a sub who takes about 1 minute to get off. Then when 4 minutes are up Klopp or whoever are waving their hands around asking why it’s not full time forgetting about the sub. Even the SKY commentators say “We’ll the 4 minutes are up” also ignoring the substitution.

I'm not hopeful about witnessing a game of free flowing football tomorrow. Michael Flynn has not exactly built his reputation on his teams playing open and expansive football and Walsall's current form doesn't look particulary stellar so I'm expecting another borefest.

I enjoyed the way the game played out on Tuesday. Any of the regular back 4 who slow the play down to a crawl should be subbed and Odusina or Songo’O brought on to replace them. It’ll be scandalous if we don’t make the most of the attacking talent we have in this squad.. Up the tempo, pull them about and shoot.

Referee: Marc Edwards, from Tyne & Wear, refereed three times at Valley Parade last season - and all were draws.

    Good height at the back.

We shouldn't be conceding from corners and free kicks.

Seems to be a lot more time added on this season. All evens out at the end of the day. Newcastle could have easily won the game themselves.
