Without seeing the footage my guess would be that he is referring to the 3 current wells but the ban on extraction etc is still in place.

The principle for this is bang on. Unfortunately the only ones who benefit from it are either the companies rich enough to be able to invest in it or individuals with enough exposeable income to buy into it over the long term. These wind turbines are gold mines for investment companies, I know someone involved with the installation of them and the profits they make for those lucky enough to be involved are fantastic. Shame that low cost energy is not passed down the chain to those desperately in need of it. It's a cleaner energy for the planet but we as energy users don't see the benefit.

Sure. I was thinking more from the reduction of pollution and meeting our national energy needs far more quickly than nuclear or fracking. But I'm sure you're right about the need for cheaper energy to be passed on to the consumer. That's unfettered capitalism for you.

In an ideal world the use of wind power, solar power etc, should be used to everyone's benefit. But then as weve recently out with these 'viruses' and wars, the richest people in the world have seen their wealth rise quicker than at any time in history. One day enough people will wake up and see it all for what it really is. Problem is, from a certain level upwards, everybody of any so called standing is tied up in that capitalist system. And because of this nothing will ever change.

    Apparently so:

"Dr David Toke, from the University of Aberdeen, said: “As you go from England to Scotland by road or rail you will notice a definite increase in the use of land close to transport corridors for windfarms. "

I read that bit but is it actually true or just his opinion? Anybody been to Scotland and noticed a difference or have any photos of what they do?

Would thise travel corridors class as brownfield sites anyway?

I think they're talking about the kind of, often run down, industrial areas that often border rail lines etc. I'd have thought they are the epitome of what is meant by a brownfield site.

Possibly. It would be interesting - and probably crucial to the debate - to find out if that is the reality.

Because I've never seen any reference to it previously except in this one singular quote and can't find anything to substantiate it, either online or from a person who has seen a noticeable difference on that journey.

I agree with you. It sounds a good idea in theory but would like to know more actual details on how it works in practice.

I'm now approximately 1 year into my 5 year energy plan.

Back in March 2022 I was at this stage:

    Done
    1. Purchased an EV.
    2. Purchased a share in a wind farm, to meet my current annual usage. This will come online next year.
    Outstanding
    1. Purchase sufficient domestic energy storage (batteries) to run off cheap overnight electricity.
    2. Move from gas central heating to a heat pump.
    3. Increase my wind farm share (or add a share in a solar farm), to cover my heat pump usage.
My three outstanding issues have seen a little progress and a lot of change.

My domestic energy storage battery system has been on order for 3 months but, like many others are finding, my installation is in an ever increasing queue, die to demand outstripping supply.

I have pretty much written off the idea of installing a heat pump after finding out the my house would not qualify for the government's £5,000 subsidy, which significantly extends the pay back period. A heat pump would have also involved quite a bit of disruption to my house (extra piping, changing some radiators, external mounting etc.).

Instead, I have put myself on the waiting list for a brand new technology, an electric 'night storage' combi boiler, which incorporates the latest heat management technology and can be fully 'charged' in 4 hours, so it will work off the likes of Octopus Go. The technology has already been tried and tested with a full size boiler (already available) and the company's new combi boiler is scheduled for availability by the end of next year. In this case, it is a simple swap over; the new electric combi boiler goes into the same space as my existing gas combi boiler and connects to the same water pipes and existing radiators. There may be a very small amount of electric wiring required to connect the boiler to a spare way in my consumer unit.

The boiler sounds as though it could be a useful alternative. Our house was built in the mid eighteenth century, so the walls although double skin, do not have rubble free cavity. We live in a conservation area, so could not ‘clad’ the exterior and would not want to lose interior space. Have you a link to the boiler?
We have some friends who have a neighbour who has installed air pump and complains that the property is now ‘cold’.

Out of interest, does the house your friend's neighbour lives in have underfloor heating or radiators?

I ask because one of our distant neighbours has also had an air sourced heat pump installed with a similar result. Downstairs, they have underfloor heating and everything is OK post instalation. Upstairs where they have radiators, they noticed it was noticably cooler. The recommended solution is to install larger rads in a couple of critical areas to compensate for the lower output from the heat pump. The larger rads haven't been installed yet to my knowledge so can't comment on whether it's worked or not.

I once worked on a farmhouse refurb in York and two airsource pumps were fitted with underfloor heating throughout, the insulation on the house cost circa £50,000 to make it viable. Plus it needed a plant room to house manifolds etc for the heating zones

The neighbour and my wife’s friend are on general chat terms, rather than close friends, so they are not sure.
Most of our radiators are below windows. We also have two reproduction period style cast iron radiators, so from a personal point of view we are a little limited.
