Gilliead has a role next to Smallwood but absolutely nowhere else. He played in two attacking positions today and contributed nothing as per usual. As for Sutton, I really cannot understand why he was given a new deal.

There's been a distinct lack of intensity to our opening two games. No one prepared to run at the opposition or run in behind, other than Young today. All slow, safe, predictable. No intensity off the ball either. Piss poor opening and it needs to improve lots, and quickly.

jake young and Andy Cook must start next weekend. When they came in today it was much better up front.
Angol just seems nervous about running at pace and so far I’ve seen nothing from Oliver

On the face of it, 2 lethargic performances. Conceding right after scoring was piss poor. An we are already getting hammered with injuries : Osadebe, Eisa, Walker.

I’ve not been a city fan as long as others on this forum, my experiences only go back about 10-15 years. But from that time, there’s many examples I can pick from where teams have started off poorly an have then gone on an smashed the league. Even starting that run as late as December, we’re not even at the end of August yet.

Id also like to point out that last year under Adams, we were cruising in August, we were beating teams left right an centre comfortably. Id also like to point out that not all of the players are up to speed yet i.e. Halliday, Oliver, Chapman.

Im not trying to sugar coat things, Im just trying to add a bit of perspective. I am still confident that Hughes can get this team to click, an that there will be a few attacking minded signings to come through the doors in the final weeks of the window

That's because Oliver has knvak all to work with. I'm not sure what we are trying to achieve with the formation we've started.the first time game with, it doesn't help either Oliver or Angol. Those two.aint gonna create their own chances but we.have no real strategy on how to supply them with those chances. Both games so far we've looked a little better when the subs have come on because it either took one of Oliver or Angol off or both of my then. They aren't bad players just squareholesand round pegs in that formation. Hard to describe how much we miss the moment and guile of Periara and Vernam, without them out options seem to be very limited when looking for creativity.

Have to agree to disagree I compare because I've seen them both play. Smallwood seems to be operating in that quarterback role just like Watt did. Based on what I've seen so far I'd prefer Watt personally. I'm pretty annoyed with the performance today tbh might just be because I've had a bit to drink but I thought we were lacking today badly

Smallwood is a sitting midfielder he breaks things up and lays off. I think one of our problems is the player alongside him. That to me is where Gillead should be because he can carry the ball and quicken the tempo

It’s all well and good playing possession football, but it’s all in front of the defence and easy to deal with. We must up the tempo if we’re to get anything out of games. I’m cheesed off with the result but happy in the knowledge that a regular starting 11 will fall out of squad (fitness allowing) and we’ll start getting at teams.

I think I’d look at starting Songo’O alongside Smallwood for the next game and leave Gilliead in the changing room.

It seems pretty clear that Angol is playing within himself. He's got pace but is so afraid of his hamstring going again that he's not prepared to use it. It might be that he's been told to be careful in the early games and build up his strength but at the moment he's a shadow of the player he could be and is not much use as a consequence. Sooner or later he's going to have to play to his instincts. If it comes off he'll be an asset. If it doesn't his career is probably over. But that time has to come sooner rather than later because he's very ineffective as things stand.

Wasn’t it Brian clough that said football is an easy game so long as you don’t make it complicated????
Ffs are we in for another few months of it ???
Angol was crap last week so why play him ???
Gilliead at the point of a triangle why ????
Cook a fella who will get you goalssat on the bench again ???
Listen I ain’t no manager but do we need another few months of managers trying to be clever but fooking up yet again ????
Barrow got away with 3 point down to our poor management again

Fook me 19k last week is it so hard to get a man in who will just get the basics right ????

I hope this s a pathetic rant but it’s worrying yet again :(

The formula for success in the lower leagues is proven. 4-4-2
A keeper who does the basics right but nothing special.
A tall / strong back line
A leader in midfield who wins every 50/50 partnered with a clever playmaker.
2 direct fast wingers who’s only aim is to get to the goal line and cross to 2 big strikers.

Only at the very highest level do you have to dick around with silly formations.
