What about football bringing in a rule like rugby. If a player goes down injured and it's not a head injury, the trainer/physio can come onto the pich to attend him, but play continues. That might cut down on the time wasting

I can't see why when Miller went down in the box the referee couldn't tell the physio to treat him behind the goal, you could bet down to 9 men he'd soon feel fit enough to come back on.

Almost every time a Doncaster player went down on Saturday they were clutching their head, forcing the ref to stop the game. I don't know how refs are supposed to deal with that given the current rulings but something needs to be done as Saturday was a mockery of a football match.

Marksman on top of the stand and anyone faking is shot in the head. Give them something to complain about

Yeah, that's a rule that's getting abused badly.

Every time you defend a corner, why not just go down clutching your head? Especially if you're winning?

Automatically prevents the opponent's collecting the loose ball.

Make them go back down the tunnel for a concussion test?

Or at least have a concussion test at the side of the pitch so the game can be restarted, but make it mandatory after a head injury.

As the rule stands there is little leeway for the referee to make a call, a grey area that is open to abuse, similar to the 6 second rule I can't remember the last time I saw thaf rule enforced.

That would be a start if it could be implemented but it would mean no goalie would ever finish the match..

They then have to change their behaviour. It will single handedly speed up the game. Goalies making a catch and falling to the floor like a beached turtle is another . Pickford started that ruse off.
It’s useless refs adding time on , yet doing nothing about it. The token booking of their keeper at the end was a farce for starters, especially when his , get this “Man of-the Match” antics started immediately AFTER serious injury at minute 6. One massive step to speed up the game!

Enforcement backed by punitive measures is the route.

It's a while ago but I think when the rule was brought in keeper did get rid of the ball quicker, but over time the officials have not implemente it until we now have the situation where keeper are making if blatantly obvious they are wasting time, so unless the referee nips it in the bud which Madden didn't he's making a rod for his own back.

There was one in the second half when George Miller just ran forward 3 yards and fell over clutching his face. Wondered if anyone actually touched him but saw a video of it on twitter than night and no, he just took a tumble. Whistle goes, few minutes down but we had the ball on the left hand side of the box by the touchline ready for a cross when the whistle went.... every time the ball came back into play when we should start with it where we were, we just kicked the ball back to the keeper every time.

I hate when teams take the sportsmanship response to these clear dives. We should carry on where we were, it might stop teams doing it as much if they know the ball is in the danger end from the restart, rather than them just diving because they know the keepers getting the ball back.

Very true. I got clipped by the wing mirror on an electric taxi in London a month ago and went down like Tomlin. The driver stopped and ran back to apologise. I was sore, but fine so just shook his hand and sent him away.

Part of an article from Ryan :

From the electric atmosphere to the awesome displays, it was a fantastic occasion and one I will personally never forget. I know Mark and Glyn feel the same way.

On the flip side, it was devastating to lose Emmanuel Osadebe after just five minutes to a horrific injury which, in many ways, clouded the whole day and visibly affected our players, and overall performance.

This, coupled with Doncaster’s style of play, certainly left something of a sour taste. I have also since held conversations with the head of the Professional Game Match Officials Board, and had it confirmed by the body that the match referee made a number of errors, none more so than the failure to dismiss Liam Ravenhill for a challenge which will leave Emmanuel sidelined for a lengthy period, while Liam himself was able to return to action the following week.

The errors if not comedic, we’re sad and from that article one deemed to be pretty obvious.

I’ll have a go at listing some.

Yellow card instead of straight red for the wreckless tackle with no thought to the likely outcome of the tackle.
He failed to book their midfielder instantly after kicking the ball away for the second time. He booked him a second time for playacting as he’d already waved him away after the second time he kicked the ball away.
Permitted, unchallenged , blatant and repeated timewasting by their keeper and their right back from the 10th minute onwards , yet oddly added the time on. . ( Why book him with a few minutes remaining which had zero effect)
Failed to book their right back for a playacting dive
Lastly , which is a difficult one to police, continually stopping the game for so called head injuries , where no contact with any part of the upper torso was seen. (I could see it , why couldn’t he)

    Im sure there is more.

I'm just a little surprised after the meeting with the Professional Game Match Officials Board Ryan made their comments public, good for him.
