Hell, we've seen the likes of Boyeson, Drysdale, Kettle and Marc Edwards to name only four. Now we've had this idiot Madden dumped in us who was supposed to be one of Scotland's top referee's?

I'll answer for Park, not at all. But that challenge 6 mins into the new season was totally unesessary, dangerous and showed no respect or care for the safety of another football professional.
Kids are taught this from their early years, respect your teammates and the opponents - I don't for one minute think Ravenhill meant to cause such damage but it was far too over zealous and massively increased the risk of injury

It's to be hoped he gets better borderlescott because for me he was slow, not much desire considering it was his debut, failed to get onto the end of crosses and, for me, was generally poor.
Cook was a breath of fresh air when he came on and at least let the defenders know that he was around.

Diamond , not even on the bench for Sunderland, after losing Osadibe , probably for the season, could he be the answer to our now more pressing need for attacking flair players.
Can not comment on the game yesterday, not there due to the wedding and it was hard to follow ,as internet signal was poor.
Having a certain former centre forward sat on the table next to me , kept me on my toes to nip out and check the score.
But those stats show we need to find a way to brake teams down, although an early goal, throws opponents negative tactics out of the window.

    Diamond is the likely answer.

Had to leave early but had the game on the radio for the drive and Gary Jones wasn't glowing with praise for Oliver. Said the entire game plan for the second half was crossing towards him but he wasn't gambling on any ball. If it wasn't on his head, he didn't really try take a man with him, or put them off to create space for others. Needed to look more proactive, but didn't have much pre-season minutes so hopefully it's just sharpness.

Without straying too far off topic, I agree on this. The evidence on the health risks associated with heading is clear and it will be banned before too long.

So a long ball is played in the air towards your forwards and the opponents defender , or a corner or free kick played high into the box. What do you do, let it bounce. It would alter the game dramatically and not for the better in my opinion.
Yes something needs to be done around the issues of heading, but banning all togethor is not the answer.

I think they should wear motorcycle crash helmets. We will see headed goals from the half way line!!

It would appear the inept ref was not going to do nothing with Tomlin, until Ridehalgh had a quiet word in his ear, then, reacted to whatever it was he said, and sent him packing.

Was no width at all yesterday and with Chapman as our only fit natural wide option, I'd hope we can strengthen in that area. Our best period under Hughes has been with two wingers who commit defenders and put defences on the back foot and that's exactly what was missing yesterday.

Really hope they don’t offload Andy Cook before the deadline, he was much sharper than Oliver when he came on, in fact he should start at Barrow and leave Oliver on the bench.

13% of all UK deaths were attributed to Dementia and Alzheimers in 2018. Was it higher amongst footballers or are they just getting their fair share? There seems some evidence of an excess in football but you need to be careful interpreting them. From experience, I can say damage is much more from head contacts with other players than from heading the ball. Anyway, I expect we'll eventually see lightweight protective headgear advised or required rather than heading banned. That will open up sponsorship opportunties, of course.

I thought Ridehalgh was just complaining about the kicking away of the ball because the ref didn’t appear to be doing anything other than shooing Tomlin away?
Only when he threw himself to floor did the ref dish the second one out
(Ironically, if he’d seen Walker sneakily tread on him the punishment might’ve been the other way)

Yes his toe tip caught his foot and as a result the chunky one fell to the floor as if shot. Read the Donny forum …it’s funny. They claim, and a number of them said, Walker ran 50 yards and STAMPED on Tomlinson foot and poked him in the Kidney’s . If it wasn’t sad it would be laughable. If he’s their Marquee signing , over weight and slow, I’m sure glad we missed out on him. Truly awful professional behaviour.

    Hilarious performance from Tomlin.

The manner of his dismissal is meme-level stuff! It might be added to the dictionary under 'Clown' I've heard.

Gonna have to agree to disagree in this one. The ball was there to be won as a 50/50 ball, doesnt
matter if it's 6 minutes into the season or 6 games.

In the Midland Road we had a clear vantage point as Oluwu, the Donny CB, waved for one of the Donny players to go down and waste time.

Literally told him to play act.

He got booed, but not enough, not sure everybody twigged.

    Blatant cheating.

I think it just comes down to Cook having a full pre-season and Oliver hasn't.

I felt like Hughes wanted Oliver to play as he's started him the last couple of pre-season matches but I do feel it was the wrong call. He doesn't seem match fit. Cook is. Cook should have started ahead of him for me.

Then you've got the width problem @bantam2708@bantam2708 mentioned. OK, we started with Odasebe but Angol was always going to want to come in centrally. Bringing Sutton on wasn't great either. He's more central as well unless he's put at right back. We had too many players in the centre which suited their efforts to stifle the game.

I'd love to see City fans go to Doncaster and celebrate like we've won the Champions League the second the game kicks off.

Apparently 0 0 away is a major achievement for any team :joy::joy::joy:
