Betting on City

The bookies don’t take much money on League 2 and they are happy to just let the fans knock the markets into shape because most fans only bet casual amounts and they aren’t going to pay out much. They are much slower to react to teams when they go on winning runs in L2 and National League.

if you ever look at the goalscorer odds you’ll see names on the list who don’t even play for us.

The bookies won’t pay the salaries of traders who are clued up and comb such markets, they just accept there will be more mistakes and if someone does get clever and fills them in, they’ll just close their account.

There will be enough of our fans backing us to make the price keep contracting.

Spot on. The odds (other than Man City) only reflect the take up in the market once trading starts. Someone down at 50/1 is there because only the man in the park (with his dog) have put £1 on them whereas someone at 5/1 has had thousands lumped on them.

The odds reflect the potential loss to the bookie.

 

Pointless. If you want to have the chance of making any money you need to take a punt and do it early. Whats the point betting on it i March when a team could be ten points clear ?

 

I usually have small bet on City to win the league, bearing in mind we have only ever done this twice.
Risked a tenner last year, cos like everyone else, got carried away.
Cashed out at 51p, which at the time I thought was pretty generous.
£5 @ 8-1 this season, gives a bit of extra interest.

 

I had City & Wrexham last time. If Parky is still in place at the start of the season I will have it again

 

Bookies pull outright divisional odds after a few games. To say you can reassess a divisional bet after 10 games is bollocks.

 

Same here, City ,Wrexham and Sunderland but only Sunderland delivered.

 

No they don't. Unless, the market is marked a winner, odds will be available right throughout the season, even if short and restrictive

 

They suspend outright markets on match day, that’s all.

Some firms republish prices by Sunday but most it will be on Monday. Same in every league in UK. Can bet from week one until May.

Sutton 11/1 to get relegated is massive. Loads of clubs making much better signings than them, they ran out of steam with a small squad and the dreaded second season syndrome.

 

With only 2 relegation places I think Sutton will be ok.
Barrow and Stevenage are my tips for the drop.

in league 1 I think FGR will come straight back down as will Bristol Rovers.
Neither of them were anything special last season

I did one last year. Fortunately wasn’t just Bradford that ruined the bet, but Ipswich too. The rest I got right. I don’t know how I’d cope if it was just City who messed up the accumulator. Especially with that sort of return!
