Isn’t he like 22? Anyway they’re a big club and will be expected to challenge for promotion unlike Lincoln where the other two went, I know which club is rather play for regardless. Wolverhampton is a dump but it’s a club footballers would love to play for. As for Portsmouth, I believe Watt lives in the North West so if he got somewhere around Surrey or the nice areas of Hampshire it’d probably be similar travel time, hardly what I’d call Grotty. Like with City I doubt any Portsmouth player lives anywhere near there.

It depends what else he has on the table I suppose.

portsmouth are a step up on us so despite it being a dump, his family might give him their blessing if they think its a way into the championship - its more likely to happen there than here as things stand

Most players will move anywhere for a 3 year contract on good money!

Let's see how he goes but I'm far from convinced he'd have been a good option for us.

Not sure he is big enough to play as a loan striker?
    Probably better in a 2.

Not sure if you’re kidding? Do you live in Bradford? The whole inner city is an absolute dive.

Portsmouth and the surroundings areas are far nicer than Bradford. I’d up-sticks and move down that way in a heartbeat.

It’s a good traditional football club with big support it would be a good next step for him in my opinion

Yes it would but one too far? Games in that division would probably pass him by as he’s not a quick player imho.

I personally wish he'd hurry up and move on. Yes he's potentially a good player but I don't think he's what we need here and now. The sooner he moves the better IMO as he's obviously tieing up funds we could use towards signing players MH thinks will improve our squad.

If he stays great, if he goes we move on. So far the Vernam and Paudie replacements look a step up imho, so it’s putting justified faith in the recruitment team. Smallwood or Watt………mmmmm let me think? We will know in four days or less anyway..

Same with Portsmouth. Lots of posh places nearby if you take into account the sailing etc. It's a proper football club. If Watts go I can accept him going to Portsmouth

He's exactly what we need here. Young, fits into Hughes's style and was integral last quarter of the season. Psychologically we like to rubbish players to lessen the loss. Just accept it's part and parcel of being a lower division club and move on

Smallwood AND Watt would have been very good.

Not sure whether we have gone for Smallwood as Watt's replacement knowing all along that Watt wasn't staying, or whether we are still in the market for another midfield player as well

It was that period (which was roughly December 2013 to March 2014).

Plus remember, we didn't start the following season that well. We'd just lost 4 out of the previous 5 (which of course included Oldham ) and only won 5 out of the first 16

i.e. arguably we'd made no progress for an entire season's worth of matches

No wonder rumours were rife, that Parky was under threat if we'd lost that Halifax match - even though I thought that was ridiculous.

I would have thought we'd want a playmaker, because Smallwood looks to be the defensive midfielder we've needed for years.

One or the criticisms Hull fans seemed to level at Smallwood most was that he took 5 touches every time he got the ball and really slowed down play; but that he also broke up opposition attacks all the time, and his stats for tackles and interceptions were superb

I imagine he can play, but I don't think he's a replacement for Watt?
