Had Hughes been in from the start from last season then no way would we have finished 14th we would have been finishing at the very least in the top 10 ............. now with a far stronger squad with a manager who will go after teams then it’s stands to reason that we will finish a hell of a lot higher

 

I think our change in tactics will put a lot less pressure on that defence something that Adams failed to understand ............ and tbh the lads we have brought in could be a lot stronger than the lads who have gone

 

We’ll done to everyone who got this deal through especially Mr Rupp who has put his money where his mouth isn’t. I think Richie Smallwood took a look at our home kit and thought I like playing in amber.

 

I hadn't realised that Smallwood had been offered another 12 month contract at Hull, but turned it down as he wanted longer.

If that's true, it's an even more amazing coup that we have landed him

 

An excellent signing. Fair play to the club for having pulled it off, this is impressive.

 

He can’t assess players by listening on his crystal set!

 

But what you are forgetting is Sparky wasn't there all of last season. If the latter end of the season is anything to go by we would have finished much higher no issue had he been there longer.

Also, is Smallwood just 'one decent signing'? I think Walker and Chapman are extremely decent for his level. Based on the glowing references from Port Vale, Swindon, Barrow and Forest Green fans have had to say - we have also signed another 4 that will help us improve on the shite at Sparkys disposal from last season.

 

Now to move one or two on and thank them for their services to the club.

 

The more you look at it the more impressive it is. He played in both the fixtures the season Blackburn and ourselves were league 1 where Blackburn had a right line up. A proper deep lying midfielder, shame Watt will more than likely leaving as I think.it would have allowed Watt to push forward more where think his skills would be better served

 

Threlkeld, Kelleher and 1 or 2 of the kids I guess. I said earlier I'm not against Cook staying. I'm not against him moving on either. Might be something to reassess in January.

 

Agree. I can't see Watt staying, which is a shame. I honestly think the best thing for his development would be a season learning next to Smallwood, in a side that I think will dominate possession most weeks. A year here and he could be ready for the championship

 

The signing of Smallwood, Chapman and Walker give us players that have played at a decent level, something we lacked badly last season. We are still in need of a couple more but if you can't get positive on the back of these signings Fordy then I can't help you.

 

That's true but if we targeted Smallwood because we knew Watt was going.......then no issues with that. Same with Chapman and Vernam.

 

Watt has been crying out for a decent midfield partner since he's been here, none.of the players that we've had during his time here, with due respect, have been good enough. I think it would have been a very good midfield two.

 

It looks like that but then I've never seen Watt as that defensive lynchpin that Smallwood is. I'd have liked to see him pushed further forward in a more attacking sense.

It’s a bit strange why a lot of those released haven’t yet found a club? I would have thought Cooke would be in demand by a few clubs?

 

He is, he's just taking his time to make the right move
