Bradford pubs - and their decline

Bloody hell, it's taken you long enough to work it out!

You must have missed my numerous posts about Essex, West Ham etc over the years.

 

Station, Harrogate Road, 14.

 

Exactly the same as me, maybe a year later.
Stood in the vestibule daring each other to go in, but we weren't sure what to ask for.

 

We used to go to the Robin on Sunday dinner time, if you weren't in by 12.01 you didn't get a seat. Closed at 2 O'clock then too.
I remember when Brendan took over from Brian Hoddy, Brendan wasn't the most jolly of chaps, last saw him playing doms. in the Corn Dolly, he died quite recently.
Brian's daughters were always a pleasant sight behind the bar.

 

Grattan social club Lidget Green 15yo, a neighbour signed me and a friend in, I looked about 12 at best. 3 pints and I couldn't understand why I kept bumping into tables and chairs! Stopped at a kebab shop at the Cemetery Rd traffic lights for a shami kebab, first taste of Asian food, blew my head off. It must be burned into us that beer must be followed by "curry"

 

My first pint was in the Woolpack at the bottom of Whetley with my dad. Remember it like it was yesterday. Miss him badly.

 

Barrack tavern been bought by the sweet centre by all accounts

 

Enjoyed many a good pint in the Barkerend but sunk many more in The Red House when Stotty owned it them were the days queuing up out side on a Sunday to get a domino table in the tap room, and the waiter knew what you drank, wonderful days.

 

We're you a Bradford Moor lad @Fools Gold, had my 21st in the Barrack Tavern, but preferred the "Coach & Horses over the road brought up on Tetleys and Ramsdens J believe if had a brewery up Manchester Road..

 

First beer at 15 years old in the "Wheatshelf" in Wakefield Road, no sooner had we got our beers than two bobbies walked through the door asking the bar staff and punters if anyone had seen any of the "Louthers" a pretty notorious family in the day, needless to say we supped off and went over the road to the "Railway Club" some cracking nights in there and cheap boozing.

 

More in name than stature they like to live on the name

 

Barkerend is where i learned what a tap room was lol would get a sneaky shandy from my cousin in the summer.

They ran the Bedfordshire in the 80's, maybe out of your way Bronco

 

My brother in law frequented it, John Cooper ring any bells.

 

I'll run the name by her when next I see her, she has a good memory
