Yes, they will be. I also went to the Solovair factory shop but didn't see anything there I fancied at sensible money.

They are not cheap for sure.
I’d like to do a factory tour of those places..

Solvate split from DM a while back. More expensive than Docs these days.
Problem with DM is that they have outsourced their production, and imo the quality isn’t what it was. I’ve got a couple of pairs of “made in England” docs from back in the day, and they are still going strong,

I almost bought these a few months ago. New colour scheme and almost “city” claret. Still thinking about it, as the leather looks very stiff, and these look like they’d need a lot of running in. 189€ a pair too.

1% of DM production in the UK the remainder Thailand and China from 2018.
DM claim all the materials and spec are the same as the old UK versions despite claims of poor quality since around 2003 when the nearly went bust.

I compared a pair to Solvairs, before buying Solvairs. A country mile difference imho.

There's no doubt that Solovair (ie the original Docs manufacturer) shoes and boots made in Northamptonshire are the real deal and better quality than far Eastern modern Doc Martens. But when I went down for the Northampton v City game I also went to the Cheaney, Crockett & Jones and Barker factory shops and spent an unfeasible amount of money on three pairs of formal Oxfords, one of which will debut at my daughter's forthcoming wedding. I therefore didn't feel like spending another nearly £200 on Solovairs, tempting though it was. I'm afraid my shoe fetish is getting to be nearly as bad as that of @Bigrod@Bigrod

Yes agree, when the daughter got wed about 12 years ago I splashed out on a pair of black loafers, complete with acorns…. My all time favourite shoe……They were hard buggers to break in though, at the end of the wedding day I was crippled!

Top quality offerings were few and far between as engineering and railway environments were not really practical. I do prefer boot type footwear around 6 months of the year tbh.

Breaking in shoes/boots is not too difficult. Wear them around the house for several days and that loosens the leather.
Although Solavair are good boots, they are cruiser weight. These beauties are the real heavy weights. They go on and on and on. You could get them re heeled & soled several times. The Trick (how did l do that;)) is to look out for the sales which are on a couple of times a year.

Love the McCall cushions. Unfortunately, Mrs KV gave a swift, and rather rude (I thought), no to my suggestion of a few for the lounge.
