    I know ;)

Nonetheless, none of those players joined us a) on the cheap (wage wise) or b) when we were dross.

They all joined us either during our Premier League stint, or just before.

We wouldn't have signed a single one of those players as a Division Three side.

Saunders, Halle and Wetherall signed for us in the Premier league.

Unless there's a higher division then I'm not sure where you're going with this one.

A dose of realism is needed when looking at league 2 player signings. One may end up with a higher calibre of player but comes with a caveat, be it injury prone or the like. I've seen Nahki Wells mentioned on social media, the bloke has been on the thick end of £25k a week. And when your club is looking for self sustainability as one of its core values then the boat ain't getting pushed out that far. Expect to see Hughes utilise the loan market where there is potential for better personal without the extortionate wage.

The world is a constantly changing place, but I think you are correct, I am fairly sure Wells could get a club in League One on higher wages. It makes sense to spend what we have in a balanced manner.

Players like Paul Mullin and Paddy Madden have gone to non league and are on around £4k a week. As it stands we cannot afford that in our wage structure and as such have to temper our expectations when it comes to player signings. I do trust that the club and Hughes have viable targets in mind, just depends if they fit into that wage structure.

He'd probably get a run out at some Champ clubs still to be fair. Looking at their forums, it's clear to all their lot that him and Pearson had a falling out over playing style at the end of last season. Under the last manager, he was starting most games. But when Pearson came in, he was quickly moved to 4th choice. All their other forwards are bigger lads, and plays 1 up front with cutting in wingers either side. That one up front is Chris Martin, completely different style of striker to Wells.

Peterborough chairman on his podcast said they tried getting Wells on loan in Jan, but Bristol wanted all his wages covering. Looking at the teams going up, he'd do a job still for a Rotherham, especially as Ladapo is leaving on a free. Probably still at Wigan, certainly would at Sunderland but even your Birmingham types at the lower end of the champ, he'd get in that side. Be interesting to see how quickly Derby sort out their new ownership, it's it's the preferred bidder the American rich bloke, his exclusivity period to sort out a deal expires tonight. If it's soon, guys in his boat might see them as a high paying L1 option.

It’s silly season on Twitter atm and the younger ones especially are lapping it up and are probably in for a rude awakening, I’m sure some think because we have Mark Hughes players will take a 20k wage cut and we’ll end up with a top end championship squad. Wells and Charlie Austin I’ve heard multiple times, some strike force that! I’ve said on here plenty that I’d like us to push the boat out that but more to get out targets and in the long run they’d pay for themselves with success, but even I’m against spending 20k per week on a player in the lower leagues. As mentioned above it’s time to be more realistic, not so much on here but other social media. It can be fun hearing all these names, but when you end up with players closer to Robinson then they’ll be people whinging about it all summer.

I don’t know all the precise mechanics of the equation, but it seems as though clubs in the National League can manipulate their wage budgets, so that they can actually pay more to their squad. I would thought some would struggle with the EFL system.

Quite possibly though I'd expect someone as savvy as Ryan Reynolds would know the exact ins and outs of the EFL finances if Wrexham go up, the same with Stockport.

We all thought this with Salford, look how many seasons they've been in L2 now. Have they even made the play offs once? Having spent the most on players and agents every season?

Covid spells were secretly a gold rush moment for none league clubs who had a bit of backing. That first covid hit season, when the EFL introduced salary caps and squad registration limits of 20, clubs in the league didnt really know how to plan out the next few years, and survival was more important than spending. They didnt know it would only last for a season, but in that season a lot of players took pay cuts, or short term deal, clubs at this level and above had to offer deals within stricter budgets...... where as the none league didn't enforce any budgets at all. So your Stockport, Chesterfield, Wrexham types, clubs who have great financial backing for that level, all could suddenly offer top end L2, lower end L1 money out.

Some clubs are still in that "we are clawing back money" phase in L1&2 and will still offer lower deals than they would say 3 or 4 seasons ago.

Salford are a very poorly run club with no real strategy other than to splash the cash on roulette numbers. The 'pandemic' curtailed big wages for a lot of lower league players, some of them taking wage cuts in new deals in what was an uncertain time for for the game. And as Rod pointed out earlier, EFL rules do have an effect on what can be spent as even Salford started to reign it in. With numbers of season tickets sales set to rise with the Hughes factor Bradford will probably be self sufficient for the foreseeable future. Huw that will rank us amongst next year's wage salary table remains to be seen.

Dunno kev, this Reynolds is the real deal. His business acumen arguably better than his acting. Personally I'm not against clubs coming in and spending if the owner has the money. That said, Wrexham ain't up yet. Some good team ls in those playoff places and I ain't that impressed with what Parky has done there even with the massive wages they pay, Stockport by far the better football side.

But £4k a week is possible if the budget is utilised properly. Lavery, Robinson, Elliott and Delfuneso were on how much collectively???

Throw a surplus Andy Cook into the equation and you could be talking £8k a week collectively right there.

Bring in a £4k striker and add him to Angol and one more decent permanent with remainder. Then wr can look at the loan market where we just pay a proportion. Throw in youth striker Charlie Wood and you have 5 strikers right there. Woods been offered a deal so he should be considered going forward.

About time we looked at quality over quantity.

It's more prosaic than that. The NL is out of step with the rest of the pro football pyramid. It doesn't currently have any form of salary cap and therefore clubs can pay whatever they want to their players.

One or two clubs may well receive a bit of a shock once they are in the EFL having to comply with SCMP!

People do like to get a bit carried away with a non league team that throws the cash about, almost to the point of fear of them coming up in case they put muscle us. We shouldn’t be fearing any team in league 2 regardless, as Dennis says they will still have FFP rules to follow as everyone else, Salford have proven it’s not so simple once you get past the unregulated leagues below, it’s like a business person getting kicked out of the Cayman Islands and having to follow EU regulations all of a sudden, that would end up in a change of business strategy or trouble.

A mate of mine said Wrexham will be in the championship by 2027 and dominate the lower leagues as I pointed out it hasn’t quite worked out for Salford that way, or Sunderland in the league above who had a reported £20 million wage bill in their first league 1 season.

They may do well but it’s not the guarantee people make out, I’d rather one of them have success than a Salford with no fans tbf, at least it would mean something both clubs have suffered over the last 15 years.

I wonder if we have any promotion clauses with Crankshaw? Probably wouldn’t be much but every little helps.

It's all about the guy you have working on your recruitment these days. FGRs squad is seemingly getting pulled apart, nobody signing a new deal as of yet and a few have gone up to championship clubs. Just before Edwards left, Portsmouth wanted FGRs head of recruitment and Vince had to give him a big raise to stay. But over the last few years, their recruitment has been incredible.

Might have a few quid coming our way from their promotion, but not that much to shout about. I'd be surprised if Crankshaw gets a chance their next season to be honest. He only started 5 of the last half of the season there, only one start in the last 12 games they had. He's dropped way down the order, and they'll inevitably bring in a fair few starters that might move him even further down.

Salford is different and not a great example.

The aim of these so called money NL clubs is to get to the Football League. That's it. In Salford's case they understand that football is now heavily about off the pitch matters and vastly improved their ground, training ground and sponsorship. Once all that is boxed off they will go again with the spending and become a force in div 2 and maybe 1.

Stockport or a Wrexham might already have their stadium, training ground, and sponsorship ironed out.

Bradford City stand still hence why we get overtaken and struggle. Luckily for us we have Hughes as manager now and he's an attraction for on the pitch matters but the same problems are with Bradford City that off the pitch the club is a disgrace. Sparks is trying his best but Rupp needs to step the f up and prove he really wants to own this club or make no mistake it won't be just Harrogate overtaking us. The lasts of Salford(Have done already) and the clubs in NL that come up will fly past us.

Big season for Bradford City next season and we have to get recruitment and off the pitch matters vastly improved. NO EXCUSES!!
