Considering, like the past four seasons, it will be easily in the top third - then that is surely strong enough.

What's this obsession with strong/ best budgets? As we've seen with Parky who had largely a moderate one, ie like Exeter and Sutton you can achieve far more in achieving your goal than say Salford, as success comes from the quality of the manager and the structures they have place.

Nooo! Perira, like Angol, Walker and Vernam, is a class way above Lg 2. I'd keep him in a shot.

Hughes in his post match interview said something that certainly made it siund like Angol will be here next season. Something along the lines of he took him off because he was cramping up but if we manage him properly he'll be fine next season

This might seem like a strange question but here goes.
Was today's performance simply a repeat of the first half against Scunthorpe but with that level of play maintained for the full 90 odd minutes?

I hope mate. Angol is a way higher class player than Lg 2 and well managed by a team who REALLY understand the potential injury points he needs to be supported and helped with, he could pull up trees for us next season. He has amazing mobility, first touch and vision.

Clearly he knows the players and adapts them to where they work best rather than the overly and unnecessarily stubborn ex-manager.

Examples - Threlkeld shouldn't be near the starting team, Angol offers more than Cook, Gilliead offers more defensively because of his work rate than attacking wise with his almost zero assists.

OK, he's maybe been a bit lucky that Vernam and Angol have come back fit but he's still managed them and he's still got a midfielder in central defence but he's also worked out that if we have more of the ball then our sketchy defence have to defend less and are able to concede less. Another thing the previous manager didn't think was necessary and was happy to invite pressure on to us.

Similar in a way in that Walker, Vernam and Pereira ran the show

Aside from the first 15mins of the 2nd half, it was an even better performance than the first 5 mins against Scunny, we netted it 6 times against a proper side. Entertaining football

I don't care about the semantics; strong, good, healthy etc etc

I'd just like us to give the manager as much support as possible. I'm not advocating spending a league one budget but we should be giving Hughes as many of the players he wants as possible.

Pereira reminds me very much of Paul Taylor who flattered to deceive, he scores a blinder like the one at home to Oldham and lives the season on that goal, if Luton made Pereira available on a free I'd take him, I wouldn't pay a fee but would he come to Valley Parade or does he believe he's more ability than league two.

touch and vision. Good point Tennessee. For me, I think it's down to the continuing work that Hughes and his team are doing, working first from strengthening defensive solidity and tactics, up into midfield and beyond - and then getting them to play nearer totally focused 90 minutes of football every game. Top class manager knows it's a 90 minute game.

Its not that complicated really. The bigger the budget we provide Hughes with, the greater our chances of success.

We should not write Andy Cook off so easily, he could have had a hatrick after coming on, Transformed us attacking them

I wouldn’t put much relevance on the Scunthorpe match.I know you can only beat what’s in front of you but they were by an absolutely massive distance the worst team I’ve seen for a long time.Full of kids who looked lost and totally out of their depth.
I prefer to judge todays game separately as a match against a team going for top 7 and with a decent unbeaten home record.
They like to go long and apart from a few set pieces it seemed like we thoroughly deserved the 3 points after playing some decent football.

Sutton fans were queuing up for photos with Hughes'y after the game, we have such an asset at the club - we must not *@?$ up this opportunity.a ssSutton fans said we were top 3 in teams they have played this season. I hope they don't go up because not sure they are ready for visit from Pompey, Derby,Weds or Sunderland etc but what a season they have had

Honestly mate some of the stuff I read on here has me shaking my head. 'Right Mark, we've pushed the boat out and found a million down the back of Stefan's faux leather sofa, your budget is £3.5 million.'
'Its ok Ryan, just give me £2.5 million and I'll make do without that backup striker and that quality midfielder we need.'
Cos that's exactly how it reads. Every extra pound given to Hughes helps him build a squad with the extra capability to go for promotion, just because Morecambe did it with peanuts does not mean it's the right way. Let's face it we're.gonna need those extra pounds to pay the wages of players of the calibre of Vernam and Walker.
