Looking at goals scored, then our 37 isn’t very different from Tranmere (36) and Northampton (38). What is propelling those teams into the automatic promotion slots is their very tight defence.
The goal difference is what makes the difference!
Rather than just look at one individual, then more goals have to come from a range of players, our none scoring midfield is a huge problem. If goals are scored by different players, then neutralising Cook, could allow other players in, especially if there are often two defenders marking him.
It is the often slow and ponderous build up which gives the opposition time to Marshall their defence, which I think has been a factor. As a team we seem to have far too few options and are very predictable.

Agree, we need to do better. I am more than hopeful that Hughes being a striker will have seen that already. Let’s all be honest Cook isn’t mobile enough….I’ve been saying it a long time.We might be L2 and I don’t expect a Drogba like figure but even mediocre L2 teams have shown us time and time again , a mobile centre forward has put the shits up our central defenders, whoever they may be or have been, ALL season. If we can see it then it must be blatant for Hughes as he was largely of that mould himself?

It is Dave, and I believe people are now waking up to the fact that a root and branch dismantling of the 24man squad is absolutely necessary, contracted or not?

Hughes and the club will need to decide how many transfer windows that will require. Me I’d say cut our losses in the close season 2022 others may say by Jan 2023?

Of course this has to be “ funded”. That side of it , we are in the lap of the gods, so to speak?

I though he didn’t have a bad game Saturday and was more effective for sure!

This just shows how badly this club has been run over the last few years. Players being brought to the club with no real idea of how or where to play them. And these players being coached and conditioned that's lead to more injuries than I've ever seen at Valley Parade. Hughes is a welcome change at the club but there are still others I'd like to see replaced and I'm not talking players.

Because he's got the athletic attributes and can run with a ball but his deciding making and execution is far too often woeful.

That said, defensively he's very weak too so ......... perhaps a right wing back at a stretch?

We need a mass overhaul. Given Hughes pedigree, there can surely be no further 'debate' over whether we have a capable manager. All focus needs to be on the backing he's given. He needs to be supported fully, and its about bloody time that Rupp invested in growing this club. Hopefully that's forthcoming.

Effectively the same career trajectory as Gareth Evans - except, you know, that Evans scored quite a lot of goals.

Wing back is a cert, he's okay there, harmless enough - can still kinda see RB though, but time will tell on that one.

For all intents and purposes, Rupp said for some time that he would invest in the club and get us back to where we were.

Then, Julian Rhodes came along and suddenly it's sustainability & spend only what we make.

We all agree with sustainability, but the Rhodes-style mantra has crippled us.

As has been pointed out sooooo many times by all and sundry, you can still be sustainable even if you spend a little bit, as long as you spend well.

Rhodes, for some reason, always seemed to be the one wrist-wringing, and given everything changed in his very brief tenure as 'consultant', it appears to be his fault.

I'd be careful. You'll have a load of notifications next time you log in from people telling you that, 20 years on, it's still Geoffrey Richmonds fault.

Is that the position he drifted in and out of last weekend?

No idea Kev. I didn't go and didn't even know the result until later that evening. I'm hoping Hughes can spark some interest back into me but for now I'm not wasting my time unless the kids specifically ask if they can go.

Im full of optimism Dave, but we do need that a decent clear out first. It was probably Gilly best game for us tbh?

Interesting that he probably had his best game on Saturday and Mark Hughes played him on the left.

John we have been repeatedly told that City has a budget, which although not the biggest in the League, is one which is at the higher end.

If it was down to simple finance, City should be in the top 5/6 and not 15th.

It is how the money has been spent, which has seen us falter and end up lower mid table.

City, ‘budgeted sales of circa 11,000 season tickets’. https://www.bradfordcityafc.com/news/2021/june/off-season-update-ryan-sparks/

However they achieved substantially higher sales, ‘Bradford City AFC is delighted to announce a total of 12,715 ‘Take Me Home’ season-ticket sales ahead of the 2021/22 season’. https://www.bradfordcityafc.com/news/2021/july/city-announce-12.7k-season-ticket-sales/

In simple terms a further £300,000+ will have been generated and could be injected into the playing budget, without eroding the ethos of sustainability.

That could fund quality players to either play alongside Cook and/or provide him with better opportunities through the midfield.

    Agreed, Rod.

We have the finances and resources in place, so long as fans stick with the club for next season
