Eoin Doyle, 25 goals in a shortened season and won the league. Left us and got promoted again the next season!

He would've probably broke the record for League Two most goals in a season if it hadn't been terminated.

So since 1990 I will say and kill me if I'm wrong.
    McCarthy
    Jewell
    Stapleton
    Ormondroyd
    Stallard
    Steiner
    Blake
    Edinho
    Mills
    Saunders
    Windass
    Carbone
    Gray
    Thorne
    Hanson
    Wells
    Wyke
    Cook

Those for me are the stand out forwards of the last 30 odd years.
Players like Shutt, Wright, etc I would class as midfielders or wide men.

    One of my favourites.
Met the big guy at a charity cricket match at Undercliffe.
I was 10 at the time and my Grandad was the groundsman.
Stood chatting with me for 15 minutes talking footy and sport.
Remember giving him some cheek and he was laughing his head off.

Well then let’s have Ashley Ward in there.
He popped in a few goals and also wrote off about 1 million quid in unpaid wages.
We wouldn’t have a club today if he’d not done that.

Rocket Ron in the near season and Mark Stallard in his one season at City. The final winner still lives long

No remembers John Taylor, a legend for Cambridge Utd but took about ten games to open his account here but i thought he was pretty decent for us.

Ron Futcher and Jimmy Quinn were quality for us, just needed them here for longer.

Looking at Thorne’s record at Norwich before joining us he was awful but had been good prior to that.
I think that’s a fair judgement of a player-they could be poor at the most recent club but if good prior to that there’s likely something about them.

A regular omission from this sort of thread is Eoin Jess.
Apart from Peter Thorne Jess was the most natural finisher in my time,
He only played in the Prem and Championship for us and scored 17 goals in 68 games in a struggling side at a high level
He should never be left out
My favourite overall is Dean Saunders who still could produce fantastic examples of a top division striker's craft every game.
His workrate and intelligence were assets he worked hard to perfect over a distinguished career and played at the very top for big clubs.
I was so glad I was lucky enough to see him at City.

Norwich were also playing at a far higher kernel than league two though.

Ward was a waste of space and money and he had a fortune out of city like carbone why only signed for city for the 40k a week wage and 2 million signing on fee , they would never have got the remaining wages if city went bust , so waving that fee means nothing .

Rubbish. Players take what they are offered. We agreed to pay him it and he was due it as a priority football creditor.

Fact is if he hadn't waived what he was legally due we wouldn't have a club now.

Off topic, but the older fans amongst us will know that in the late fifties, and early sixties City had the Midas touch in signing strikers.

In quick succession, we had McCole, Stokes, Layne and Green. As we lost one, another, equally as prolific, took their place. Each, in turn, could be relied upon to regularly hit the back of the net. It was, truly, a golden era for unearthing effective goal scorers.

Ron Futcher probably the slowest player ever to don the shirt yet his positioning and eye for goal were just amazing

Rocking Ronnie Futcher. Never pacey but like Peter Thorne new when to make intelligent runs. Not many players like that in today's game.

The season we had Stead and Hanson up top with Billy Clarke playing in behind them was one of the better forward threats of recent times. Jon Stead brought the best out of Big Jim and Billy Clarke. Very intelligent footballer.

Taking into account the quality of the opposition, Stead's performance against Chelsea was probably the finest centre forward display I've ever seen in a City shirt.
