Can anyone summarise the article in today’s t&a around striker and ROD?

Threlkeld got an absolute pasting from Jones last night. And rightly so. Terrible performance. I thought Walsall’s right back (White?) was pretty decent. Quick, played high up and put some good crosses in. Made Threlkeld look bad. First half I was impressed with the directness of Walsall. Despite his shocking miss, Miller ran his socks off and never gave up on any lost cause. In comparison, Cook looked laboured and disinterested, no doubt because he’s been hung out to dry by Adams tactics.

I have no issue with direct long ball tactics at this level, our issue is a lack of composure. When McArdle used to do it to Hanson it was a planned long ball, our lot look like they shut their eyes and just hook it clear.

I wouldn’t get carried away with praising to many opponents he probably gets skinned to better teams.

Well we thought we'd have to spend to get players in this window but 3 wins out of our last 5 and momentum is picking up. Think we have what we need in this squad now and it just took time for us to gel. Therefore, we won't be spending any money this window which is fantastic news for the club and helps us in our goal to become self sustainable!

Whilst i make no bones about not being a massive fan of either of our full backs, i do think the formation we play makes it very difficult for them. We often come away from games thinking "i like the look of their fullback", " I wish we had their right back" or indeed as your comment above @TallinnBantam@TallinnBantam however our formation makes it so easy for an opposition full back.

They know they aren't going to have face up directly against a winger, and Our midfield is so narrow any full back playing against us can easily amble 20 or 30 yards forward with the ball as there is so much space ahead of them. Equally they can do this knowing we are so slow on the break, that even if they have a bit of speed they can get back and easily recover. Its widely accepted that Kelvin Mellor was one of our worst ever full backs, yet at Carlisle, as i said at the time, we made him look like Dani Alves.

We talk about positioning, but i do feel the lack of cover from midfield helps neither of our lads as they are often facing a 2 on 1 situation. I don't think its helped by playing Threlkeld at right back, he hasn't played there regular for years and this is a massive error of judgement by continuing to do.

Distribution wise, both are poor. However again is this mitigated by what is ahead of them. The midfield is either so congested or the man in front is again missing in action due to our wonderful fluidity, that there is no option other than that aimless chip down the line to nobody or in threlkeld's case in to touch.

To play this formation, you need good full backs, capable of getting up and down the line, however inf ront of them you need a three who are quite capable of doing the same, in Vernham, Gillead, and more recently Walker and Daly then we haven't got that and it just ends up looking like a messy shambles with folk all over the place and out of position/under pressure 70% of the time.

The whole right hand side of the pitch is poor. Threlkeld doesn’t get foward enough to support the attack and has too many misplaced passes. Gilliead doesn’t even try to stay out wide and narrows the pitch. I don’t even know where he’s supposed to be playing. For all the times they’ve started games together, there’s no cohesion or interactive play between the two of them. How they both get so much game time is beyond me. We’ve brought in reinforcements for his position so I’m hoping they get a chance to replace him. Maybe we’ll then start to play on the floor rather than the relentless long throws aimed for Gillieads head to flick onto nobody.

His career stats are hardly impressive, this season is the first time he's got into double figures.

Just read a few posts, sounds like Rochdale are taking another dip into the non league market.

Which could mean nothing more than Adams being told 'here's what we've come up with, take it or leave it'. Considering what he took, I'd dread to think what he left.
