I do get your point its just that when I watch him us play I don't see a player creating shed loads of actual chances. Maybe he creates the sortof "chance" @WilsdenBantam describes above. I would still want to keep but I get the idea there is something Adams doesn't like. Might not be about his football?

 

I've always felt he was very effective with what he does, which is ultimately what we're talking about, to me he does seem to create hatfuls of chances and it seems to be backed up by the stats but there's an element of subjectivity and for interpretation as to whether someone feels they are decent chances or not.

Don't think Adams was happy with the number of chances he spurned himself judging by a lot of the interviews just prior to him being dropped but it could be they've had a fall out with him getting on his back about it

 

Oh, I know all about that Rod. My intelligence gathering in the Western Theatre was second to none, most of it gathered by my trusty friend Cump but occasionally using the nouse of Little Phil (Sheridan). By the time we moved east, intelligence wasn't really needed as we just kept following Bobby Lee the same way DA will soon be following Stuart, Grayson, Bowyer, Stuart, T&S etc.

 

I don't believe these stats for a second. 10 goals in 110 games and never played in a team that has been so effective that his "chance creation" has lead to assists.

Creating a chance is a lot easier than taking one. My money is on the fact that he creates chances but the ones created are so marginal that they are difficult to score from. I bet if you drilled down the number of shots or headers he has directly created is nothing like the stats being shown.

Football is all about opinion and mine is that we could be a much more direct team without Cooke as he slows the game down too much. If we can get six figures for him I would snap their hands off.

I'm not advocating any style, I'm actually open minded. Whatever works and gets us the points to gets us up out of this league.
I was just pointing that if we had taken more of our chances there wouldn't be as much frustration.

As I say with Cooke when he is on his game he is as good as any in the league like in our good run last season until his injury and the start of this one. But when he came back he was poor just as he has been the last few games he has played and deserved to lose his place. Like most of our players he is not irreplaceable

Whatever the rights or wrongs of the statistics it's pretty clear to me that we hardly ever look like scoring in most games. I've gone on about this for ages so if any or all of our midfield depart I wouldn't be at all bothered. They just don't score. We need a complete revamp and, for once, we've got to back a manager's judgement.

 

Yes it's an opinion that boggles my mind but it's your opinion and you do justify it somewhat but for me it's a no go

People are asking what these chances are well don't the stats say aren't through balls so from my recollection they are good set pieces (we're one of the best in the division at set pieces I believe) and passes to the wingers mainly Vernam who shoots all the time but rarely scores

Either way we'd be insane to take Cooke out of the squad we would lose a few goals from set pieces and it's even better when him and Watt rotate corner duty because neither are massively consistent

Again taking out your chance creation makes no sense at all unless you're not bothered about scoring

 

Nobody is suggesting he's irreplaceable but there's two points here.

Firstly, there's at least half a squad we should be moving on before we get to Cooke.

Secondly, with all these "irreplaceable" players we move on, we always seem to end up with worse.

 

Spot on. Cooke isn't perfect, but he's at the better end of what we've got, no doubt. Selling your better players ain't a sensible way of improving your squad.

 

There are quite a few players in the squad that need moving on, actually getting someone to take them is a different matter.
Moving Cooke on, might be the only way we can create room in the squad and raise a few quid aswell.

 

That would mean Gilead would be far and away the best chance creator in the league

 

Thats the difference between those two and Sutton. Gilliead and Cooke have tons more ability but less bottle. More often than not it doesn't come off but at least Sutton has the balls to back himself to make something happen

 

Gilliead probably creates chances for others to create chances.

If anyone monitored that stat, he probably wouldn't do so badly - but it's a bit rich passing back to your full back or to a deep lying midfielder and expecting credit when people are begging you to be a decent ball in or, you know, shoot.
