20 day full lockdown from Monday in Austria who are going to make the vaccine compulsory by February, that will be interesting.

Lucky surprise for some people collecting Lateral Flow tests from December, there will be a PCR test in with the lateral flow tests

A part of ongoing assessments of LFD test kits, this evaluation involves citizens taking a PCR test alongside one of their LFD tests and sending it to a lab for testing.

Surely nobody would pay a fine though? You'd then end up with hundreds of thousands of people with court summons'.

I can't see it working at all. More likely it's a ploy to get the vaccination rate up and then come February it'll be announced that enough of the population are vaccinated for it to be scrapped.

Possibly. It would all depend on how far the government want to push it. They could easily add that the fine is taken directly from wages via their tax system. Anything is possible.

I hope someone will come on and tell us how well our European neighbours are doing again.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-59363256

Let this be a warning to our politicians. Severe restrictions to people's lives are not going to be tolerated easily and slight restrictions have once again showed to have minimal effect.

A good article, that. It's no different over here -- or down in the States -- but so far, at least here in Ontario, the hospital and ICU admissions have remained at workable levels. Still, medical staff are being ground down by the work.

I'd only disagree with the writer's reservations about making vaccinations mandatory for medical staff. As a doctor I was talking to just the other day put it, here one has to have so many vaccinations in any case in order to work, that making one more mandatory is really nothing. As he was also saying -- and he's old enough to have been in on the start of this -- just imagine if there had been this resistance when the polio vaccine came in.

Some months ago now I saw an editorial cartoon that showed people following-the-leader to walk off a cliff into the sea, like lemmings. They all had various identifying signs; one was anti-vaccinations. It could have been drawn this year, but then one noticed that the sea was labelled "smallpox," and the cartoon was from about 1930!

    If he
With that kind of plain speaking, that minister ought to be a Yorkshireman! Some (?many) people will evade the virus no matter what they do, but perhaps that directness will get the message across when gentler statements have failed.

That's an interesting article but unfortunately the facts completely contradict it. The vaccinated outweigh the unvaccinated in COVID wards.

I know a nurse who will have to leave her job next year. She works in a ward where she sees not only the affect of COVID but also the vaccine. From her experience she's decided she won't get the vaccine and would rather lose her job. I suspect that there are a fair few like her.

Today Sturgeon will announce whether or not vaccination passports will be required for restaurants etc. The Scottish version only displays the first 2 jabs and doesn't include my booster. Is that the case in England?

But if you read the article properly, s/he isn't talking about the general Covid wards. The article is about unvaccinated people taking up massive proportions of beds, time and costly drugs on Intensive Care Units.

Is it a surprise? It's hardly showing itself to be a roaring success anyway so minimal logic in extending it I would think.

The reminder to keep taking LFTs and the continued push for vaccination is surely the only messaging that's needed unless we get to another crisis point.

watching the previous decisions from up there yep it is a surprise. She did say it was a very close call, so it wouldn’t surprise me if it did t happen in next week or so

That is true. Was probably giving them a bit too much credit on not doubling down on previous decisions that hadn't had the desired effect. Maybe this is a slight turning point in how she's viewing things but as you say - Uturn is hardly unlikely.

Let's have a sweepstake on how many weeks it will be to save Christmas this time :joy:
