After criticism of Adams recently praise is due today he did what he should have done starting from second half against Bristol which was bring Canavan with a much improved Songo’o in front of back 4 best win of season.

 

That surely doesn't change the 'he's been crap all season narrative' does it? Surely some city fans are not that fickle!!

The point I was making earlier, which those wanting to bury Gilliead ignored, was that he's never been played in his best position, because Adams normally asks him to perform a particular but different role for the sake of the team.

I did say, that now he's the only creative arc out on the pitch, given that Cooke and Verham are not playing, there are no further excuses. And low and behold he gets an assist - but not the kind of one we'd expect from him (hence why I didn't use it as 'evidence')

Interesting going forward. I've suspected a while ago, that you can't play Cooke, Vernam and Gilliead in the same team and this appears to be the proof.

 

He didn’t, Songo was playing as part of a back 3.

 

Absolutely delighted. It appears not only the result, but a performance to match. We've got to continue giving Cook some support up front. Onwards and upwards!

 

Great away performance. Looked really solid at the back and constantly dangerous on the break. A bit more composure with our final ball and we could have scored more than 3.

I’m not sure how that setup would work against a more defensive team though. Swindon we’re wide open at the back with a very attacking setup and a high line which worked perfectly for us. We shall see.

 

I'd guess that Canavan wasn't fit enough for 90 minutes. I think Adams gets the reading of his players, largely correct, i.e. Sutton has been our best player since getting back in the team. The manager, can clearly motivate and that going forward is vital.

The thing with Gillead (and he was the same when he was here before) is that he is good to watch works quite hard tackling back and doesn’t hide like Vernham but to be fair he has little end product he often chooses the wrong ball or overruns it. I think he was a bit lucky to avoid the cull today but we won let’s celebrate it

 

So who got most points (if any) in our prediction league then.. ?

 

Perfect result and performance today in preparation for what will probably the biggest test of the season next week against FGR.

 

It wasn't that your comment was ignored; you never said it.

You said "he sometimes finds himself in positions which don't play to his strengths" or something similar but you didn't say he's been played out of position.

So, what is his position? Where should he be playing?

What is this mysterious "particular but different role"? I call "bollocks". Let's see.

 

Don't see it as an issue, because if you've got that midfield it would have to be one of the best in the division, i.e. I mentioned that Songo's has to be paired with Sutton and then perhaps Watt will be better - which clearly occurred.

No reason why they can't use that system to dominate at home. Gilliead, for once plays more as a winger and if he doesn't perform, on comes Vernam or play Vernam instead of Gilly. Up front, Lavery or Robinson do have enough L2 quality to warrant a place.

The only criticism I have of Adams is that it's clear that Cooke, Vernham and Gilliead doesn't work and arguably has rarely looked a long term answer. However, that might be a sticking plaster solution as the time given that the likes of Eisa, Lavery and Robinson weren't match fit.
