I’m no expert so if anyone knows better please correct me, but it could be a number of things.

Longer life, obviously some are terribly unlucky and get it relatively early but it’s most common in those alive who are older than the life expectancy was say 50+ year ago.

Maybe life style in the mid 20th century onwards has played a part, lots of tv can’t imagine it’s great for dementia prevention, artificial foods etc. We live longer but aren’t necessarily healthier.

Could be that it’s always been rife but 100, or so years ago people might have just thought older people who had it were just getting old and it was maybe seen as more a natural thing that people just got ‘forgetful’ as they got old.

I watched the programme last night and although it was heart breaking to watch there were parts that brought a smile to my face remembering things mum did or said.
Gilly looked like he'd deteriorated during the filming of the program it must take its toll on Christine and his family but as she said she will do all she can to keep him at home.

After watching the 2nd part of the documentary my heart really goes out to Christine, she's a lovely lady and you can see the affect it is having on her both physically and emotionally. Anybody who has known Gilly over the years will share Christine's hurt because he had such a strong personality.
I haven't watched part one yet which I missed due to work but I noticed that in part two there was no mention of Mark.

Yes you could see in the second episode it was getting too much for her and although she was very much against Gilly going into care deep down she knew if was best for both of them after a lot of support from her family Christine made the right decision IMO.
The bit that seemed to convince her was when her daughter stayed over the weekend and said he had drained her, when mum was in a care home Bryan Edwards came in for rest bite, one of the carers Jamie was a big Citg fan and said go and see who's in the lounge I was in there for around half an hour talking football but mainly Bradford City.
His wife came in and Jamie introduce me to her, I said we'd been talking football and he spoke as if it was yesterday, she said he was only in for 2 weeks but anytime I wanted to pop in and have a word I'm more than welcome.

When my Dad was in care he was looked after by a Jamie who was a big City fan. Wonder if it's the same bloke. He was a great lad and a fantastic carer. Sadly, I last saw him working in a fish and chip restaurant in Baildon. He'd left caring because he couldn't live on the wages. A great loss.

It might have been the same lad at the time mum was in Woodward Court near the Bell Dean pub just off Bell Dean Road.
