Bolton had quality in Doyle. They were always going up.

We don’t have anyone like that.

It's pretty rare that I agree with you, but I do on this. Gilliead has exceptionally good ball control for L2 level. He should be tearing it up. But all we get is a couple of mazy runs per game with no end product. He had some excuses when he was here before - he was younger and it was a division higher. There's no excuse now.

I said similar the other day. He is adding nothing of value at the moment, despite his undeniable ability. I believe Scunny used him in a more central role last season, maybe we should be looking at playing him there if/when Cooke isn't playing.

What was his excuse at Scunthorpe though Offy?

His numbers have always been exceptionally low for a forward looking player and it seems to me we're getting, in terms of goal involvement, exactly what we bought.

    Agree.

Angol was another physical presence we aimed for when going long, which is showing its importance now we only have Cook, its easier to nullify. Angol won so many second balls as he gambled on Cook flicks and we played from there. Doesnt happen without him in the side. I watched Vernam vs Walsall and he wasnt interested at all. He just let Cook crack on and just meant Walsall picked up the ball more often then not. It cant be due to fitness, so its down to laziness or buying into his own hype.
Gilliad is a talented player but doesnt offer enough out wide and often takes up Cooke's space when coming inside. We havent seen much of Eisa yet due to injury so will be interesting to see what happens once he's back. Not sure DA fancies Crankshaw too much.

Replace him with Eisa when hes fit. The competition for places will put some fire in his belly.

Bolton bought or loaned in eight players in the January transfer window. Many of them first team players. We got rid of some absolute garbage and also signed eight. Only Cook really made an impact last season. That’s what made the difference. That’s why Bolton went from the arse end of the league to promotion.
Anyone who thinks Bolton went from bottom to automatic promotion so City can is deluded. There’s no way City are getting a third or half of a new team in January unless there are long injuries or there is a new owner.

Eisa is getting better by the day whilst he’s injured. So good in fact he’s going to inject some pace into Gilliead. If he’s out much longer it will be like signing Ronaldo

I dunno. Did he get many assists at Scunny? I know they were bad, but he must have done something effective to have got their PotS award and have so many of their fans bemoaning their loss when he left.

1 goal and 4 assists (3 in the league campaign).

Nowhere near enough for someone who started 43 games.

Whereas Angol offers way more in an attacking sense. Yeah his finishing is ropey to say the least but his hold up play and all round movement off the ball dictates we are a more attacking threat with him in.

Bang on. When fit although he probably won't get as many goals as we would like Angol does have a physical presence and his link up play is quite good, this creates space for other players in particular Andy Cook because it means the opposition can't then double up on him.
Maybe Robinson when fit enough can perform that role as well.
I think Derek Adams would rather play two up front if the right players are fit.

Bolton were going nowhere fast until the January transfer window when they brought in some real quality, at the possible risk of bankrupting an already skint club. Had the wage cap not been ditched they would still be bottom half. It wasnt until the window signings kicked in that they turned it around.

For all our "lack of quaility" we will win more than 7 of our first 24 matches. Doyle scored 8 league goals in those first 24 matches. I'd have money on Cook scoring more by the halfway point this year

Not won in 4 matches now if you include the Lincoln game which I think we should as we played a fairly strong side by that competition standard.
Don’t want it to become 5 and then it starts to get into a bad run territory. barrow pretty poor away from home aside from beating Oldham who seem in turmoil.
gotta be winning this for me

We are down for our first match of the season and looking forward to the team bouncing back from Saturday's late defeat.

His total football league career (league only) shows 183 games, 10 goals and 9 assists. Of those he managed 5 goals and an assist in 35 games in one season.

Poor stats and you get what you pay for. A basement league player from a team that just stayed up last season.

Adams said before the season began when questioned at the fans forum thing were the goals would come from, he said that he expects his wingers and midfielders to contribute. Its worrying that they would expect assists from Gillead never mind goals. I could have told Turnbull that, save him watching a Gillead compalation on youtube and suggesting we sign him.

We’ve lost 2 players to injury that would probably be starting in the first team. Maybe he banked on Angol and Eisa getting on the scoresheet more regularly. I don’t think Adams has had the opportunity to play his best 11 yet.
