    Can we come up with a starting XI we made offers for who ultimately didn’t sign?

    I remember a few….

    Samassi Abou from West Ham around 1999.
    Devon White from Notts County in 1996 (we ended up signing Mark Stallard instead). We made him an offer, they were promotion rivals that season of course, but he decided to stay with them. He didn’t play against us at Wembley if I recall, he might have been injured.
    Paolo Wanchope - seem to recall we were in for him but the manager at the time either didn’t want him or we couldn’t agree a deal (can’t remember which).
    Lee McEvilly - failed medical.

    All of the above are strikers!
    Any others that spring to mind, especially in other positions?

    Back in the late 80s Andy Townsend. Also i think there either Keith Curle or Wayne Biggins iirc.

    Nick Law and Dean Furman in McCalls first stint was gutting at the time.

    Kieron Agard 37 times under McCall.

    Craig Bellamy. Kamara passed up on him in a trial match. Kyle Naughton another that McCall didnt fancy.

    Pretty sure we were in for Adam Armstrong a couple of times as well.

    My memory tells me we almost signed Paul Robinson but Leeds wouldn’t let him play against them in the PL, Neville Southall had to play instead?

    I remember Abouuuuuuuuuuuuuu appearing on Soccer am around the time we were after him.
    His English wasn't very good and he started saying fk on live TV.
    Hell's Bells and Tim Lovejoy were panicking haha

    I think the fee would have been 900k for him if his “upset tummy” hadn’t been spotted.
    The Harry Redknapp quote about “ eating a dodgy missionary “ caused a few issues as well.
