QPR might not go on to win the championship and Rangers won’t win the champions league, but what it will do, is give them a massive confidence boost to carry into their respective seasons. Had both been stuffed the Managers / Coaches may have questioned their tactics and with a few weeks before the season starts, maybe tried to change their approach.

You know all this and your having fun going against the grain. I imagine you’ll be sat there waiting to pick holes in the next positive thing the club do just to be controversial.

Team that started was Championship quality - on the balance a league one side. Anyway, wins a win, doesnt matter who. 5 on bounce is great prep for Exeter.

I completely agree. My point was that the Derby team was similarly strong yet for some reason we all seem to be trying to knock Salfords result.

Either they were both very good wins or neither were. We can't suggest ours was somehow far more superior when the teams put out were pretty similar in terms of championship strength.

Oddly the highlights I saw v Salford was completely one way….all Derby!
Yes I saw a documentary about their woes. It’s another example of chucking money at a team/ club ending in disaster, not instant success as some seem to think.
Another is Ipswich from my neck of the woods.

Watch the Salford , Derby highlights. I did , one pen and a great cross and header won it. Other than that Derby battered them throughout . The first half 11 Derby put out were well known CC players not kids. The gulf was plain to see but credit Salford, they got the two chances and scored.

Derby are in a right mess and I agree should be relegated.

Rooney won’t walk out though as he has other things to think about it would seem

There always an exception to the rule I'm sure you'll remember Barnsley the other season being around the bottom if not bottom of the league at Christmas, they then went on a a phenomenal run and got promoted through the play offs, after 10 games most would have written them off.

Also in years gone by,I remember Sheff U doing the same. Incidentally,Dave and this may have already been mentioned..just read that we actually pay the Gibb's family in excess of £400,000 pa in ground rent! More than previously known. Gosh, that's a lot.http://bcst.co.uk/news/4593189638/A-positive-new-beginning---The-Trust-meets-with-Ryan-Sparks/11644047

I've just wasted 5 minutes of my life watching them and saw the Salford keeper pull off a grand total of ONE save. A reasonably comfortable push away from a bouncing header.

Yes Derby dominated possession but I'm willing to bet that Blackburn also had a decent amount before they started subbing the younger players on.

Amuses me that the poster who is most belittling the importance of pre-season matches seems to be using something Steve Bruce once said as his main justification. Think this is the first time in the history of the world that someone has used a Steve Bruce quote to support their argument, including Steve Bruce!

I know we have a rent review every 5 years or so ?, I thought it was well into the high £300,000 but not £400,000, we know who's getting the best of that deal that was struck after the 2nd administration.

You're right, I think Gibb is missing an opportunity there...

I can remember a team closer to home being written off after 10 games in 98/99 season

Really? Give back £400k a year for sponsorship with a league two football club?

That doesn't seem very likely to me.

Who says anything about it being written off it’s an opportunity to mitigate part of it and benefit both parties

No, I don't mean that, more like something similar to the Morrisons deal that could benefit both parties....

Walsall paid £478k in training ground, stadium and other leases in their 19/20 season so it’s not an unusual amount City pay.

If Rupp bought the ground back himself or loaned money to the club to buy it he’d presumably either want to be paid back by the club or if another business of his bought the stadium it would want rent or interest payments. If City borrowed from the bank they would have to pay the money back.

Either way, there is no way around not paying for a stadium unless someone gifts it to you, a bit like the home you live in. For Division 4, City have a big stadium that doesn’t come cheap.
