I think Paudie, AOC and Canavan is as strong as you can get in terms of picking a pair of centre backs, so the loss of AOC to be replaced with Kelleher is a big red flag. I'm not a fan of AOC as a character and wouldn't have kept him on personally, I just thought we might have signed a much stronger replacement. Kelleher fills me with as much confidence as people seem to have regarding Angol, and let's be honest, Angol is a much more proven player.

I'm not keen on having 1 right back at the club, especially when he hasn't been playing right back in the last couple of seasons. I just don't understand that one at all, he's obviously not a specialist, but at least he's been playing. I'm not sure he's an upgrade on AOC at RB, they're both 'cover' players in my eyes.

Ridehalgh genuinely doesn't look very good on paper. I'm not sure what people are seeing there. Wood wasn't great last season, but nothing indicates to me that this is an improvement? Ridehalgh has been just as unsuccessful at Tranmere as Wood was here.

Agreed with that; it's a common theme in L2 that someone just hits a load of goals with no warning and no precedent!

It was the same last year too. Not sure why the info in the EFL Rules section differs from what you’ve seen, but it was definitely the same dates used last season too, albeit, it stated the example of (e.g. for Season 2019/20, born on or after 1 January 1998).

Someone else mentioned this recently but I think I missed that quote. Only ever heard him referring to preferring to work with smaller squad, only bringing in 8 ’new’ players etc. And didn’t I see something recently from Parker suggesting there may be 1more player (striker) set to arrive before the window closes?

Austin Samuels was an ever more bizarre signing, based on the fact he couldn’t get games for Kidderminster only a few months before joining us.

Rather than McCall’s “final piece of the jigsaw”, it was more like the “last nail in his coffin”!

Even if Angol is a direct replacement for Cook, which I personally doubt - I think he's been signed as a different option from the bench, or to give us the option to play two up top - going into a season with only two recognised strikers is madness in my opinion.

Port Vale have signed the worlds best non scoring striker. Jamie, a goal every 8 games, proctor
Campbell wouldn't get a reference on behaviour. As a striker he still scored one in three before us.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if we signed another striker; but as I've consistently said, I'd be looking at a right back post-haste to bolster our defence.

There are still a fair few free agents out there, but getting someone who can pick up where Cook leaves off (should he pick up an injury) is vital.

For what it's worth, it does seem to be the case that when a club signs Angol, they're expecting a target man - even though he can play out wide.

I see no one has taken Kbongo Tshimanga yet, rumours are Northampton are the latest club in for him. Never know why we always struggle to get strikers in since Wyke ...

According to the internet in English football he only scored 1 in 3 at Huddersfield and considering how many clubs he had I’m not sure he could be classed as that.

He was a target man at Mansfield and Orient fans say he’s good at holding the ball up

    In what way?

I see an improvement in front of the back 4 that should strengthen it but I don't see any clear improvement across members of the back 4 as yet. Probably the opposite if I was being honest.

Agreed . I expect it to be a “paid for” signing because we haven’t purchased anyone yet have we. So yes a striker ( says he in hope)

46 in 155 according to Wikipedia, so not far off 1 in 3.

No, that's fair comment. I missed that part if it was only relating to English football.

Crazily negative towards Colchester….damn right I am and anyone suggesting they are the team we should worry about , has zero expectations of us getting out of L2. They are financially crippled at the drop of a pen and if the chairman’s pulls the drawbridge up they are kaput. If you want a close to home example……Travel 10 miles to Huddersfield to see what happens to a team when the rug was pulled by Hoyles family. Colchester are no different. They should not be a team we should worry about in the slightest.
I have higher expectations than Colchester.
